The task lists on all my machines are loaded with PSH...GP120... WU's. It's a great feeling when I know exactly what my machines are working on and how relevant the work is. Dr. Baker's Post

(Wonder how that area of the project is going).

This one tried to upload several times and I tried to get it to upload with "retry now". I kept getting a message about the file being locked by the scheduler. After a reboot and a few more tries I aborted the upload and it caused the WU to error out.

This old laptop sits in a corner of my work area in the basement and crunches Rosetta 24/7 with 192MB. Only refused a WU twice. Last time was 6 days ago but still got one soon after. It ran through CASP 7 with no problems.

Hi Soren,

Even though you have your BOINC manager set to Run Always, be sure you have this setting in your General Preferences (in your account settings):

Do work while computer is in use? = YES

I also got one of those "check skipped" units and got 20 credits after a delay. You usually have to check the actual WU result to see it. I have always gotten credit for failed units as long as they did some useful work. One of the things I like about Rosetta.

I got an e-mail from Seti@Home back in March 2006. I had been with their project from June 1999 into 2000. So when I came back to have a look I discovered BOINC and joined Rosetta. In my case Rosetta gained from Seti's e-mail to me. I just got their new one too.

A few months ago one of the project team posted in response to this type of question. The only actual number he gave was for an average desktop crunching Rosetta 24/7. He said "8 hours would be fine" or something like that if bandwidth wasn't a problem. He wouldn't give any other suggestions to those crunching several projects or if your machine was off part of the day.

Over on Ralph I am getting about 100 models/hour per core on my AMD64 X2 4800+ (not O/C'd). Some had only 57 steps for each model.

EDIT: Those are all PSH______ WU's.

So if I've figured this out correctly, the first machines to report would be somewhat slow machines set for the shortest possible WU run time, the shortest possible que and to report as soon as the WU finishes.

The slower machines will probably cut the WU off well before 1 hour, maybe after say one 45 minute decoy, while the faster machines with more decoys per hour will run closer to the full hour.

Even then, what are the chances of being in the first ten returns? For me, I run 24 hours on my slow box and 6 hours on the others with a 1 day que of WU's. My chances of being in the first 1,000 are remote at best. I don't see this being an issue unless you are trying very hard to be the first return.

I've read that some small cache machines are getting lower granted credits but my Celeron D is getting about 30% more granted credits than claimed. I didn't expect that when the new credit system started. I was sure I'd get less.

I also got a high credit for a single T362 WU. Most of my credits are higher now as I always used the standard client but this one is quite a bit higher.
