1) Message boards : Number crunching : Discussion of the new credit system (Message 24745)

Many new users and hosts have arrived over the past day... a good sign!

Users (last day ) : 78,055 (+377)
Hosts (last day ) : 172,223 (+709)
Though there's been a drop of active users (and about 10% drop of active hosts)
Yes, there has been quite a dramatic drop in active users and hosts over the last two months - not just in Rosetta but in all of BOINC. But since yesterday active hosts and users seem to be on the rise again in Rosetta while the numbers for all of BOINC are still low. It seems people are voting with their feet (or rather their mouse and keyboard) for the new credit system.

i think thatb the recent BS over all this intra boinc stuff in the past few weeks has given BOINC a very very bad name. there are people out there who won't go near boinc anymore cos of the BS that went on.

Cheating is no longer possible (To avoid misunderstanding: using the optimized BOINC client was never considered cheating from the project team, ]

Nice one.

MOD.DE I posted by accident in the other thread explaining the credit system and am sorry. had the 2 windows open! sorry delete as necessary!

Why am I not allowed to ask Jose why he opposed to a fair view at the past?

You are, you didn't word it that way.

Ethan... i must say your share price is going up in my book!
4) Message boards : Number crunching : One last request for backdating of credits. (Message 24076)

THIS IS NOT A FLAME, ok!

Backdating would have been an injustice. Why? When people joined months ago they joined under a certain modus operandi. ie: "it's OK to use opp. apps." This was not outlawed by Rosetta and was not cheating. If you change the rules RETROSEPCTIVELY then you are cheating those users which joined under those conditions earlier. Its like changing the terms of a contract that has already been signed. Its about equity when you examine it.

Why do all these threads become entrenched in BS. Its like walking/wading through a field after 6inches of rain! I ask the contributors this.... What did this thread gain? What progress was made? None to my eyes!

That's right.
But every time someone dares to have a different opinion as Jose, he floods the board with flaming posts.
There is no discussion possible with someone who refuses to listen and doesn't let others have different opinions.

Well... i can see some sense in the idea that taking up forum space with issues that have been boxed away can get irritating after a while but in terms of flames etc I just see everybody fighting fire with fire. (Read flame with flame.)

[quote]we will NOT be backdating credit totals

I think this is a great idea and a good move.

1)Moviemans idea is most relevant. Start afreash if we like and archive the old credit system and all its failings.

2)Make credit system fair and to be SEEN to be fair.

3)The complaints will fade with time and the SETI people will be left as a fainting squeek in the distance of their own blubberings in their 'primordial soup'. Ahhh that was terrible, but you guys really love causing trouble. you basically wreck your own project and then try and wreck ours. The whole world knows what you are trying to do... including the god dammit ET's.

4) The leader board would not really change if this was enacted retrospectively. What an absurd postulation. Almost as absurd as the avatar of its origimal author ;)

Maybe at XS we should ask our credits to be removed so that we can keep passing the other teams. Particularly some of the ones on this thread.

5)Comparisons to other Boinc projects and credit systems are totally irrelevent and the time thinking about this would be better used elsewhere.

Thats me for now....

Thanks. . . I appreciate the response!

Sean

Of course that's our assumption as there is no hard evidence. At a similar time the top three teams started a competition between them, that could also have had an effect (ok it did have an effect)

It did indeed.. couple hundred joined XS over the space of a few weeks and previously the Dutch power Cows, peaked at over 1000. But I reckon the publicity got a good bit to do with it too.! Well done everybody!
