1) Message boards : Number crunching : ProtonMail "email address is invalid" (Message 87756)

stopfurumspam.com uses your IP address and email to validate.

Aha, the missing piece! I use Tor for almost all of my web browsing. After logging in without Tor, I was able to change my e-mail address.

I assumed that spam filters were only used for creating new accounts, not editing details of existing accounts. My bad.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

It may not be passing the https://www.stopforumspam.com/ filter for some reason.

I couldn't find my username or e-mail address on that list. This e-mail address is less than a month old.

More info about this and other BOINC spam filtering options is posted here:

I'm not the one in charge of the Rosetta@home server, so I wouldn't know what BOINC spam filtering options you are using. Perhaps you could take a look and let us know? I'd really like to know if ProtonMail is blacklisted for some reason, or if there's just a whitelist of "trusted" e-mail domains that ProtonMail just never got added to.

I've been switching everything from my Gmail account to my ProtonMail account for e-mail. Rosetta@home (and several other projects, but not all) say that my "@protonmail.com" address is invalid.

Could somebody look into this? What difficulties would there be in recognizing "@protonmail.com" as valid?

What happened? Some DNS issue, I know, but how come they took so long to fix it?

Somebody was late on verifying the registration, and Dotster took much longer than they should have to re-verify it.

Fortunately, I don't care that much about this rather amateurish project, so I'm not planning to spend more time on it. Already spent too much time being frustrated and annoyed

We have an impatient one here... It's not like Rosetta wanted this to happen, their registrar (Dotster) stretched a 10-minute process into 2+ days.

A static list:

128.95.160.140 boinc.bakerlab.org
128.95.160.141 ralph.bakerlab.org
128.95.160.142 srv1.bakerlab.org
128.95.160.143 srv2.bakerlab.org
128.95.160.144 srv3.bakerlab.org
128.95.160.145 srv4.bakerlab.org
128.95.160.146 srv5.bakerlab.org

This covers all the names and IPs I needed at least, for both Rosetta & Ralph.

Thanks! Just out of curiosity, how did you find these IPs?

I saw that Rosetta has been having DNS problems lately. While I can connect directly via IP in my browser, I don't know how to do this in BOINC, and now I have some work units that will be late.

1 unit was due yesterday, and 5 more are due on March 10th. Should I abort the late work unit?

Or, another way of asking, what happens to Rosetta work units when they are late?

The researchers that were using the ARM application have not produced any tasks for some time.

I think they've abandoned Android because of these results:
There's a 11x performance loss when running the standard abinitio-relax folding protocol on a 96 residue protein sequence, compared to our in house machines. The average float and int ops BOINC cpu benchmark values of active hosts compared to Windows is around 2.4x and 1.7x less, respectively.

Well duh. Smartphones are never going to be as fast as computers, at least not for a long time. If every project abandoned android because it was slower, there wouldn't be any android projects like Seti or WCG.

The Applications section says there's an application for Android running on ARM, but when I attach my phone (5.1.1) and my tablet (4.4) it says Rosetta Mini is not available for my type of computer. Is there no Android work, or are my devices not running ARM?
9) Message boards : Number crunching : GPU Potential (Message 77632)

From my standpoint, this project has potential with a GPU app. BOINC regularly polls this project trying to find tasks for my Nvidia, even though I don't see any GPU apps. From what I know, the way data is analyzed and processed, I think a GPU would be able to process tasks much faster than a CPU. There's plenty of RAM to hold the process, and the multiple cores would allow for more data to be sent through. How hard would it be to implement a GPU version of Rosetta@home?

Let's see if I can find 10 things...

1. This project is almost like a BOINC version of FoldIt@home, which requires a separate client.

2. This project has an amazing screensaver!

3. Unlike some projects from WCG, this project works on finding a cause and cure, instead of just looking for a cause.

4. The project has great uptime! (no periods of offline servers yet)

5. You can choose estimated runtime for the tasks!

6. This research could help a lot of people.

7. Oops, looks like I'm out of reasons. Did I mention it has a great screensaver?
