1) Message boards : Rosetta@home Science : Rosetta vs POEM (Message 71551)
Posted 31 Oct 2011 by Profile granno21
Post:
Poem@home is about to release an open CL gpu client that will greatly improve their processing power.

I was wondering I anyone looked further into the similarities and differences between rosetta@home and poem@home.

Worst of all, not a single word from anyone from rosetta. Just a small notice. That's all. Even BOINC allows for projects to send messages... and it takes less than a minute that it took me to write this... so there's NO excuse.

I completely agree. A post on the main page regarding issues with 3.17 and a time frame for a resolution would make everyone happy. This would take about 5 minutes.

Oh well, switching my crunching to world community grid until I hear that everything is resolved:(
3) Message boards : Number crunching : Validator down... :-( (Message 71535)

Post:
At the moment it seems the the validators are swamped with failed work units and this is slowing the whole process down to snails pace.
In the compute errors thread it is stated that the bad work units have been removed from the server though a lot of them are already out here with us and crashing and doing other `interesting` things,
It will take a little time to clear them and get back to normal.

Is there a time frame for when the validator will be back to its normal processing time?
4) Message boards : Number crunching : Whetstone/Dhrystone equation to estimate RAC/PPD? (Message 71431)
Posted 18 Oct 2011 by Profile granno21
Post:
Does anyone know of a way to estimate your RAC/PPD for a particular processor based upon the Dhrystone and Whetstone figures in the CPU benchmark?

This would make choosing a new processor and overclock level much easier.

Ex: 3703 whestone per cpu x 4cpu cores / certain variable = 2,000 ppd

AMD's Bulldozer has been released to some underwhelming reviews. I was wondering if there was any information on how it performs for Rosetta.

I'm looking at a new crunching computer and I'm not sure which route to go.
