Regarding All The Issues with Nvidia. Can We Possibly Do Without Nvidia? Is it really Necessary? is there something else that could Replace It? I have nvidia (Only) on This Computer which Runs Windows Vista. my HP Notebook, (as far as know), Does Not Have Nvidia, because I Do Not Have Nvidia Issues on it and I have Never Seen a Mention of Nvidia. So maybe the Problem is an Issue with Vista & Nvidia.

Hello,

All my work keeps ending up getting reported as a client error.
I'm new and searched the board for solutions and found the similar cases. So I made sure that the work stays in the memory when shut down or paused and checked my NVIDIA driver (306.97) but my latest work still came up as having a client error.
The results can be found here: http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/results.php?userid=467186
I'm running the latest BOINC client. My laptop is an i7 3010QM with 16GB memory and have a 2GB DDR5 GT650M NVIDIA GPU. I'm running on windows 7 home premium X64 SP1
Is there anything I can do now or do I have to suspend new work until the issue is resolved?

I just Deleted a Reply suggesting that you may like to Consider Updating to SP2. I thought that it had been released mid 2012 because there are Pages that show that it was: However, I just double checked MS site and it says that The Latest is sp1. Sorry about that.

Hi All

Has everyone seen the post by David Kim requesting debug information regarding the apparent nVidia bug here?:

Note that that nVidia bug appears to occur under Linux only.

I'm Running an Acer Aspire M1800 with Windows vista, and I'm contantly getting Errors with Nvidia. i've tried to search for updates, but it says that My Nvidia is Up To Date. It keeps having to close Nvidia.

I'm letting them count down to Project Backoff, and if it Fails, too bad. But if it Reverts to Retry again, ad doesn't work, I'm going to Abort Transfer.

That's pretty much the most stupid thing you can do. Best thing to do is to let BOINC do it's job without clicking on any buttons, it's designed to take care such things by itself. Once the servers will work as they should, BOINC will upload all those tasks and eventually request new ones. If your cache is getting empty and you want to do something clever, switch on your backup project(s).

Yeah, I've had second thoughts. It's just that I'm fed up with things like this happening (especially with R@H). I've decided to let it run it's course. It seems to be working (albeit ever So Slowly, because it's Still Doing The same thing).
When you suggest for me to Turn On my back-Up Projects, I assume you mean any other Projects I Run. Actually, I Run 5 Other Projects besides R@H (excluding Orbit@Home, which has never been Active since I Joined it last year), and I Run them all at once.
I've Temporarily Suspended ALL Other Projects for 12-24 Hours to see if that helps (including E@H, but allowed One Single Task in E@H to keep running because it has about 39 Hours Estimated Remaining Time): All other Tasks in each Project are not due until March 3rd or after. So, I'll give R@H The Run of The Mill, and see what happens.

Rosetta folks take their weekends seriously, THEY DO NOT WORK ON WEEKENDS. That means until they show up for work today, Monday, they have NO CLUE we are having any problems! As long as the fix is not broken or missing hardware it should be back up and running pretty quickly. Obviously broken or missing hardware could take a bit longer.

I run Rosie full time on my pc's, no other cpu projects at all. BUT I DO have one project set up at zero percent for instances just like this, when my Rosie work cache ran dry my zero percent project picked right up and I am happily crunching for them. When Rosie is fixed it will go back to standby mode and Rosie will be back to it's 100% mode.

Okay, thanks for the encouragement and information. I didn't realise that it was Totally unattended at any time: I thought that there were Admin/Mods on the job all the time, in the form of a Roster System.
Anyway, my latest Idea (mentioned above) has seemed to work. All Completed R@H Tasks have Uploaded. Seems like that could be the Trick: Temporarily Suspend Other Projects if it is practical to do so, and let Rosie Run The Flower store ...LOL :-)

Happy Crunching,

(ps .. I have now Resumed All Projects)

Yep !!! ... I'm still having Problems Uploading. They run for a while and then revert to try Again in nn:nn:nn and run for a while at that then revert to Active, and keep reverting from one to the other. They are only Actice for a few seconds to a few minutes at a time. After so many attempts to Upload, and Rety, they show that they will Project Backoff in nn:nn:nn
My Tasks are ready to Backoff at the moment in about 90 Minutes. I have been manually clicking Retry Now, but I've given up. I'm letting them count down to Project Backoff, and if it Fails, too bad. But if it Reverts to Retry again, ad doesn't work, I'm going to Abort Transfer. In the meantime, I've Selected NO NEW TASKS from R@H. I have a couple more Tasks ready to Report, and if They also cause the same Issues, I'm dropping R@H.

Could well be Tuesday due to the holiday tomorrow.

I'd note that at least some of the communications problems that happen with this project are related to administration over which the project has no control and precious little influence. It may simply be that someone in control of that aspect decided to change routing over the weekend and inadvertently decided to not inform the project people of the change. That has happened a few times in the past.

In any event, my own guess is 'best case' -- tomorrow someone on the project side becomes aware of the problem (and even posts something about it). Then, on Tuesday, the folks responsible for the IP addressing acknowledge they did some and either undo it or provide instructions so that folks can reset DNS to pick up the change.

Until then, I've suspended Rosetta processing and bumped up Malaria, Einstein, POEM and SETI to pick up the slack.

Suspending The Project Will Not Prevent it from Uploading Completed Tasks to The Server. I've already Tried That.

Oh well. It's Sunday so I expect we will have to wait another day for the comms to be sorted out.
Don't hold your breath, Monday is a holiday here in the US of A, we likely have to wait longer for anyone to fix whatever is broken.
Not that the project admins are more responsive during a work week though... :-(

I don't know, what this Comodo thing is... is it one of those "security suites", i.e. antivirus and firewall in one package?

If it's just firewall, you could try to disable or even uninstall it (some firewalls can't be disabled completely).

To test the connection to the server you could try to download the files thru your browser / download manager (disable network in BOINC Manager, download files to the rosetta directory, enable network in BOINC; BOINC should skip all existing files on next download attempt). The URLs can be found in the client_state.xml.

COMODO is one of those FREE Internet Security Programs (which has all in ones, anti-virus', firewalls). In my Opinion, FREE Security Programs are worth Stuff All: You Get What You Pay For. I once had a Free Program on one of My PC's and I Lost Everything, because it couldn't tell The Good From The Bad. If you aren't willing to INVEST up to a couple of hundred Dollars (depending on your needs) on Protecting Your Computer & it's Contents, which could be worth Thousands, don't expect much in return. you may as well just stick with Windows Pre-Installed Security Program & Firewall. Also, if there are multiple Security Programs Installed, they sometimes Kill Each Other.

I have just updated to BOINC ver. 7.0.25. However, computation errors happened with all 7 work units (6 out of them were newly downloaded ones since the update). Should I revert to the old version 6.12.34?

I just had an idea ....... If anyone has a number of Computers consisting of both 64bit and 32bit ... Lets say, at least 2 of each ... that all have the same Version of BOING, no matter whether it is V6 or V7, it may be worthwhile trying to Crunch ONLY The Rosetta Project Tasks on one of each of a 32bit and a 64bit, without any other Projects such as SetiAtHome. And use Multiple Projects including RosettaAtHome and SetiAtHome and whatever else you are using on the other Computers. Another thing to try, is Launch an Additional BOING MANAGER, and Run RosettaAt Home on That one without any other Projects.

I'm crunching Rosetta on a 32bit machine, so I don't think the 64 bit argument below can be valid.

Yesterday 27/4/2012 I was getting more and more client errors using BOINC 7.0.025.

In frustration I stopped my crunching with Rosetta and replaced BOINC with version 6.12.34 which can still be downloaded from the BOINC website.

Since then, I have had no client errors.

So on conclusion, something seems amiss with BOINC 7.0.25 and Rosetta.

My other 2 64bit computers are crunching other projects seperatley and are not experiencing any issues with BOINC 7.0.25 yet !

Its a temporary solution, in my case, and I hope it helps others, until the situation is resolved.

I am using an ACER Aspire M1800 which I am sure is a Running a 32 bit Processor. I am Running BOING Version 7.0.28 so it doesnt appear to be The Acual Version that has been referred to, and also not restricted to 64bit machines. Is it possible that it could have something to do with the Preferences Settings on Individual machines, whereas the Settings may not be Sufficient to handle The Specific Task or Tasks, and the Error Code of COMPUTATION ERROR is just a Generic Term used in such and similar circumstances. I was actually wondering if increasing the Maximum Allowance of Resources in the related Task may solve the problem.

It looks as though there must be some problem work units out there. As your failures were reported, the tasks were reissued to other machines and failed there as well under various BOINC versions.

Is anyone else having problems with task names starting with "rb_04_12" & "rb_04_13"??

Im having the Computation Problem with one of the Rosetta Tasks but it doesnt appear to be one of the rb prefixed tasks, but another Rosetta task is running perfectly. I have only been involved with BOING Projects such as RosettaAtHome for a few days. I have a Task that has suddenly ceased processing with the status message of Computation Error. My other Projects Tasks seem to be working okay, including another Rosetta Task. Also, I have another Query whilst Im here ..... What happens if I need to Shut Down my PC ... Will my existing Projects and their Tasks that are still Processing be Saved and will my BOING Projects and Associated Task, whether they are Running, or Suspended, or Ready to Start, be Saved and remain on My PC so that they can Continue Normally when I Start my PC Again, or will they be lost.
