One day, I believed, that I'm part of something good. 10 years of crunching and I see, I was wrong. I think it's time to leave this project and move resources somewhere, where people do care. You are wasting huge processing power.

You are quitting because a project is taking a bit of time (over a weekend) to recover from a major power failure?

That's your choice of course, but I would value the project more on the results of its research than the amount of processing power they are able to consume.

I think this may be more like about the fact nobody from the projects cares to inform his donors about the problem.

I criticised this project about absolute lack of communication already and it seems nothing changed at all.

@Behemot - You've got the point. It's exactly what I was meant. ATM this project looks like totaly automated project, no "public relations" at all.

Guys, You suck. I have never saw network failure that can't be repaired within 12 hours or less (I manage large networks). It's 4'th day without ability to upload/download anything. Come on guys, I am supporting you since 2005, and I always thought about R@H as best of the best projects. But from some time I am considering leaving it because:

1. You do not wan't to share source code - how the hell could I be sure I am not part of Bitcoin botnet or other strange project?
2. There is large number of errors in WU's
3. Current project status for me is DOWN.

Guys do something or you loose lot of compute power.

I'm operating at Windows 7 64 bit version, and yeah it has 260 byte limit and this could be it.

relative path is
../../projects/boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta/benchmark_0008_master_babd28351e57425d68b32333be5a837fb7cd5818_ploops_42_input_0002_no_lig_fragments_contact_opt_iteration_1_0aeeba3d61a044ac8d3d2107721e4aee_fold_SAVE_ALL_OUT_169893_2693_0_0 = 224 chars + 1 <NUL>, but when we replace realative to absolute:

C:Program DataBOINCprojects/boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta/benchmark_0008_master_babd28351e57425d68b32333be5a837fb7cd5818_ploops_42_input_0002_no_lig_fragments_contact_opt_iteration_1_0aeeba3d61a044ac8d3d2107721e4aee_fold_SAVE_ALL_OUT_169893_2693_0_0 it's 249+1 <NUL>, total 250 chars.

Here is what i found in network:

So it should work, but maybe there is different true name of the file (maybe there is tar.gz at the end? Then it would be 256 chars, still 4 bytes left :) Maybe tehre is something more.

Oh and one more thing, according to M$ site:

The Windows API has many functions that also have Unicode versions to permit an extended-length path for a maximum total path length of 32,767 characters. This type of path is composed of components separated by backslashes, each up to the value returned in the lpMaximumComponentLength parameter of the GetVolumeInformation function (this value is commonly 255 characters). To specify an extended-length path, use the "\?" prefix. For example, "\?D:very long path".

The "\?" prefix can also be used with paths constructed according to the universal naming convention (UNC). To specify such a path using UNC, use the "\?UNC" prefix. For example, "\?UNCservershare", where "server" is the name of the computer and "share" is the name of the shared folder. These prefixes are not used as part of the path itself. They indicate that the path should be passed to the system with minimal modification, which means that you cannot use forward slashes to represent path separators, or a period to represent the current directory, or double dots to represent the parent directory. Because you cannot use the "\?" prefix with a relative path, relative paths are always limited to a total of MAX_PATH characters.

I guess we need a client update :)

Hi guys,

i am wondering, what's wrong with my PC. Recently i'm having lot of client errors, and I try to figure out what's wrong. Seems to me like it's somthing to hard disk related problem, but i am not sure. I have marked interesting parts:

I wouldn't bother that if only they were validate errors, but they are marked as client errors.
I have also noted, that I've been granted with credits for those tasks. So my question is.

Is it really something wrong with my PC or just something wrong with R@H?

Premier, interesting test that you did. I have one question was the task length set on default? (3 hours)

Yes, default task lenght was 3 hours.

Curently I am making another test to see how it's done on the same WU's (I have little problems with it).
I am also checking the impact of OC - seems to me that there is no linear gain @i7 processor (20% MHz boost is not giving 20% performance increase like in pure synthetic benchmarks, but I need more testing samples).

Incidentally, I think the price difference for a HT vs non-HT capable Intel CPU is somewhere in that area, when you account for other differences.

i7 4770K is ~45% more expensive than i5 4670K, but you gain 100 MHZ extra at stock clock. Top CPU's has always worse price/performance ratio.

I calculated average credit per day as a formula :=

Avg WU per core/day * number of cores(threads) * Avg Granted credit
HT OFF = 8,1509428836 * 4 * 144,2326666667
HT ON = 8,3791622648 * 8 * 89,5136111111

It was very short period of testing (2 days for each one)
I'll try some long term statistic, and then i will comapre my previous results.

Of course there is some measure error as it was not compared to exactly the same WU's.

Some of You may be interested, how much boost - if any - we achieve when hyperthreading is ON. Is it 100%, 50%, 25%? Here are my results.
Avg WU Time [s] Avg WU per core / day	Avg Claimed Credit	Avg Granted Credit	Avg Credit per day	HT Diff
i7 4770K HT OFF	10600,0006666667	8,1509428836 123,812 144,2326666667 4702,5289117906 0,00%
i7 4770K HT ON	10311,2933333333	8,3791622648 120,4386111111 89,5136111111 6000,3925792691 +27,60%

As You can see, there is ~28% improvement when using HT. To be honest, I was hoping for 50-75% performance increase, so I am little dissapointed. I wonder is it HT limitation or Rosetta non-HT optimized client?

It was my company network problem - I have installed Thor proxy, and now everything is working perfectly.

I am having similar issue. Since few days I cannot upload nor download any WU. In the same time primegrid WU working fine.

My 1% stuck WU:
2006-01-17 12:48:14|rosetta@home|Starting result PRODUCTION_ABINITIO_1bq9A_250_543_0 using rosetta version 481

It's been doing almost 7 hours. It freezes at step 21933. Suspending and starting again unfortunately don't solve the problem. I closed BOINC client (Windows version) and open again and guess what. The WU pasess the 21933 step and process whole WU in 1hr 15min. The bad thing is I lost 7 hours of doing nothing (and lost credit) :( And this is not my first 1% stuck WU. I have my stdout.txt saved form stuck unit. If You want it - I can mail it.

One more thing. After restarting BOINC I compared the stdout.txt form WU that stucked and the same WU wihich completed successfuly. To the line where is random seed they were almost identical, except one line:

WARNING: check_decoy_exists: unexpected decoy number: start#,decoy#,lastdecoy# 1 1 40 0
