Hello,

I have 2 tasks running but they are very long!

one, running during 23 hours with 54% and an other 45h at only 22%!!

What can I do?

I let running these tasks or it's better to stop?

Thank you for your answers

I just view the memory usage and it's very down: 3.3 mo for one, 1 mo for an other and 0.3mo for the last. the problem must be here?

Look at the properties tab for each work unit. If the CPU time (time actually spent working on the WU) is reasonably close to the elapsed time(real time), then it is still working ok. If there is a big difference then it has stopped working. In that case exit completely from boinc and restart it (or reboot). This should get the programmes working properly. Also if the memory usage is below normal then this indicates a problem.

t further seems possible that the project folks might NOT be aware (just yet) that things are not working.

Things are moving along as all the servers are disabled.

Both of these tasks would have failed even if your system was behaving correctly.

Look at the work units and if it ends in a "1" rather than a "0" there is a possibility that you might have a problem with it. This code means that you are the second person to attempt this work unit. However, there are always exceptions to the rule. The first person may just have aborted it or have run out of time.

The very problem is exactly what was just said, that we DONT KNOW. It would be nice to get an update as to whats going on, expected time line on resolution or just any kind of actual input from the bakerlab team.

They must have heard you. There is an update on the homepage.

Such grand advice! Inane, but still grand.

Be careful with the trolling. Mod.Sense has the red pen out.

BTW, anyone notice it's difficult to get work units? :P

It seems to be getting better. The servers have been keeping me supplied with enough to keep me going. I try and ensure a reserve of 12 work units with a 6 hour run time.

Do I understand this correctly? The problems are so big that only grid computing can solve them, but they are not big enough to keep the grid busy?

deesy

No, there is a problem with the servers. Look on the server status page and you will see they have taken nearly all of them off line while they make a proper fix.

PS. On my main rig I noticed the last remaining task has been running for 47 hours and reports 83 hours to completion and the time to completion is going UP.

Click on the properties tab and look at the difference between elapsed and cpu time. If there is a large difference then you are going nowhere very slowly. In these situations I close down and restart boinc which usually does the trick.

There is an ongoing problem with the server but it is slowly sending out work units. You can get an idea of what is happening by looking at the status page. It has been fluctuating for the past two days but things will come back to normal hopefully sooner than later.

There has been a problem at source and work units have been hard to get. However, it looks like the situation is gradually getting resolved as I have just received another supply of work units.

1 - I'm looking for information on the incidence of BOINC & Rosetta on my Computer, Is it no adverse effect on it, to work so much ?
2 - What's about the internet connexion volume, I have a limited free number of GB by month with my internet Provider (100GB/month). How to have information about the exchange volume via internet ?
Sorry for my bad english !?

I run 4 work units of Rosetta on my quad computer and have yet to find a time when it has delayed my computing.

My limit is 5 GB per month and haven't come close to exceeding the limit when I only download Boinc, routine emails, web browsing etc.

In ab task names there is IGNORE_THE_REST. Why is this in task names?

Don't take this literally. What it probably means is that they have a protein where they want to see what happens if they alter only one section. Therefore they make the rest of the protein "inactive". By testing different methods they can try to devise algorithms that both produce good results and reduce processing time.

No, mine are working normally. Wait for at least 5 seconds for the graphics to appear. If you have it on a full size screen it will take longer to appear than on the smaller default size. The complexity of the work unit can also account time of appearance of the graphics.

When two machines are setup side by side you can see the miniscule slowdown when Boinc stops and something else runs and then Boinc starts back up again, but it is VERY slight in most instances.

To demonstrate that this is happening look at properties and you will see a difference in elapsed and cpu time. Elapsed is real time while cpu time is the time the cpu spends processing the work unit. I have a six hour preference and occasionally I note that the work unit is going to be another of these long running ones as its passed the 6 hour mark. I then check the cpu time and find it is only around 05:45:xx as I have been doing work on the computer.
