Ran services.msc. BOINC is not even listed in the list of services for the computer that is having the problem. I checked services for the computer that it IS running on, and it's not listed there either.

When I start BOINC Manager, message appears lower right "connecting to localhost" After about a minute "BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client"

The computer this is happening on had been running just fine for a long time. Nothing has been changed. All of the work units it had been running finished and I cam unable to reconnect to get more.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled BOINC. I have shut down the computer and restarted. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

I am running BOINC on two computers. All has been going well. All of a sudden one of them won't connect to localhost. Message: "BOINC Manager is not able to connect to BOINC client"

Can anybody tell me what I should look for? I haven't changed anything. Thanks

Speaking of having extra work units on hand, even though I have my preferences set to 10 days worth of work, I get no more than 8 or 9 work units at a time. Hardly a days worth of processing. I lowered my preferences to 4 days thinking that this might be more realistic, but still no additional work units. What's up? Anybody know?

There were some server problems over the weekend that caused the server to run out of work. But they seem to be resolved now.

Thanks for joining the project. Such outages are very rare, but keeping the cache of work at-the-ready assures your machine has something to do. If it works for you, something closer to a 2 day cache would be better. This is longer then most outages, and yet still gets results back to the project very quickly.

Well whatever it was, it seems to have resolved itself. Both work units seem to be processing at the same time now. I can only guess, since I don't know much at all about how computers handle these work units, that it was the work units themselves and how they were designed to be processed by the computer. Thanks for you assistance, and to all that responded, thank you too.

Go to the [Participants] link at the top of this message board display, click on your General Preferences. Do you have more then one "location" set up? What are your preferences for the "use at most % of CPU"?

[edit] Are you looking at the task manager to see when things are running? Is some other Windows task kicking in and using CPU? Or does the CPU time just go to the idel thread when both task are not running?

Here's how I have my preferences set up. I just added this new computer and beside doing that, I didn't change any preferences from what I had set up for my other systems. The only other programs I have running are the usual anti-virus, firewall and spyware items. It just seems odd that only one processor at a time is accumulating CPU time.

No, the task names are "1gidA_BOINC_MG_CHAINBREAKS_........" (to keep it short). The status of both tasks is 'running' They have each taken almost 4 hours of CPU time so far and are at about 95% completion.

I just bought a new HP system, DUO core processor. I've noticed that I have two work units processing at the same time. This is great. The same thing my Dell does. Difference is, on the HP, one work unit will process for several seconds while the other one is stopped. Then they'll switch and the one that was stopped will process for several seconds. My Dell processes both units at the same time. Any ideas? Is this maybe a limitation of my new system, or maybe just the way the system is handling the particular jobs it is processing? Thanks for any info.

I get a message that my PC has reached it's daily quota of 100 work units, apparently because I deleted a lot of them during the problems that were recently experienced. assuming that there was a problem with the work units that were downloaded. I know my PC hasn't processed 100 work units today. Who can I contact to get whatever has to be reset so that I can download more work units?

The Tasks tab shows I have workunits downloading, but nothing ever gets downloaded. Under the Transfers tab it shows there are units downloading and pending, but no progress is ever shown on these. Everything seems to be stuck. I have tried reseting the project, I have tried exiting BOINC and restarting the computer. Nothing works. Dead in the water for now.

I am a member of a team whose creator has not been an active participant for quite some time. I have submitted a request to Initiate Transfer to become the teams new founder, which has been declined.

I was wondering if it would be possible to form a new team, along the lines of "The NEW _____________", where the blank would be the name of the team I am currently on?
