If I read the instruction properly all you need to do is place the file in the Boinc folder on Friday night and do an update. Remove it on Monday morning and do an update to restore preference.
I'm not sure but I believe you may need to use Boinc V 5.4.9

I think that you mean restart the client rather than update it.

I should have read the last sentenced. :)

Boinc et Rosetta ne produit pas de son. Ce doit être un problème d'interférence interne dans votre système

when you have a batch of Wu's downloaded and waiting to be run in your computer to get the smaller ones to run first? Or in the reverse: to get the larger ones to run first.?

Is there a setting in the preferences that allows you to request this from the server that sends you the Wu's?

Can this be done?

Note: Please remember I am a newbie and a ultra-plus non techie (Sometimes I have problems finding the on-off button.) and don't use words that are more than 3 syllables long, and if you use acronyms and abbreviations please use footnotes to explain them to me.

TIA

The short answer is no.
I have seen much written about what the scheduler does in the case of multiple projects to ensure that WU (Work Unit) are crunched and return on time.
I've seen little that refers to single project scheduling. I've looked though the Boinc Wiki but have not yet found any reference as to how Boinc decide which WU to process, other than the WU that have a shorter/earlier deadline are processed first. The size of the WU does not come into play as far as I can tell.

EDIT
John McLeod VII would be the authority on the scheduler as he has spent a lot of time fine tuning it.

Regarding the zlib1.dll:
I believe that if you delete the zlib1 a Boinc project that requires it will download a new one. Or, you can get a new (clean) one directly from Microsoft or from the zlib project here - look for 'zlib compiled DLL, version 1.2.3' download somewhere near the middle of the page. You can get a new zlib1.dll and copy it to your Boinc folder. The file from zlib.net is the exact same file but has a different date than the one from Boinc.

I would not suggest, this since the Boinc programmers have compiled their own zlib1.dll for a reason and the Microsoft version may cause some incompatibility.

I personally have three programs on my computer using this DLL each is a different size indicating that they have been changed slightly to fit the programs requirement.

My system is not infected with anything, and probably neither is yours. It is quite common for these 'Protection' programs to have fouls positive.
Example: for more than a year Adaware insisted that Spybot SD was spyware.

My only experience with this error occurred when an other program (P2P) froze on several occasion and made my system extremely sluggish producing this error message in Boinc. My assumption was that Boinc had timed out in its attempt to communicate with the client software. As far as I could tell it never had any ill effect on the crunching of the WU.

Yes, no, security, trashing, blah blah blah.

Test the damn client before you put it to release.
Just means putting controls in place to prevent that happening.
Testing it in beta circles before hand.

Not to be argumentative, but even Microsoft hosed a hole bunch of systems when they posted the wrong build. Thousands of people that had XP that set to auto-update had to reinstall their operating systems. Errors are made.

Boinc only has 3 overworked employees and a dozen volunteer developers. Do you really believe that all the 't' are crossed and the 'i' dotted before a release is done.
Rom had to release 3 or 4 updates on Saturday to fix problems encountered when thousands of new people from Seti-Classic switched to Boinc. There was no time to do a whole lot of testing for bug that may have been introduced. We are the Beta testers. This is a fact of life with university shoe string operations.

I prefer the auto-update so you can install the program and forget it. Maybe the staff can make the auto-update an option so, who want auto-update, have it and who don't want....simply deactivate it.

I've personally was a victim of an update that messed up my system because the wrong copy was put on the download page. Luckily, it was only downloaded by a few dozen people before it was reported and removed. I can just imagine the mess it could have caused at Seti, for example, if ten of thousands of people had gotten that file.

So when are they going to get boinc/manager to auto-update like the rest of the projects. ?

Never!!! It's a security issue especially with corporate computers.

This tread is very interesting and basically a rehash of similar threads on Seti-Classic several years ago. As interesting an intellectual debate as it is, it won't prevent the cheating from occurring.
I can remember the first copy protection system on diskettes for the Commodore 64. They got cracked within weeks. Sony's latest and greatest copyright protection can be overcome with a little bit of scotch tape.
There is unfortunately little that can be done against an intelligent, resourcefully cheat.

Ok, I tried 'leave in memory' option last night, but the old problem stll exists.
I currently have Seti and LHC ticking away at the same time.
I guess that with W98, leaving in memory, still isn't an option that can be used.
I wont be crunching for Rosetta until someone at Rosetta or Boinc addresses this problem.

I'm using W98SE. I haven't been running Rosetta because in the past, leaving the applications in memory caused problems such as multiple applications running simultaneously and producing very long crunch times.

Does anyone know if this problem still exist?

I am interested in this project, but I'm not willing to stop running other projects to do so.

Hi dev. Team,

when did You think to solve that Problem? I know it didn't crash if I leave rosetta in Memory! But I must remove it from memory!!

Please let us known if it is fixed.

Thanks
Urban

Will do,

Have you tried the 5+ boinc client? I read on another post that this problem goes away but have not heard from others confirming this.

It errors out on my system. Spec. in my signature.
I had problems with LHC reseting to 0% until they fixed their check points. No one seems interested to find out why Boinc and Win98 don't play well together with 'option leave in memory'.

I had a look at the specs of your system. With only 223MB of RAM you will likely continue to have problems running Rosetta, at least until such time that the devs can sort this problem out. I'd suggest running something else for the time being, or running only Rosetta.

Thanks for the reply. I've temporarily suspended the other projects and set Rosetta to NO NEW WORK until I run through my current queue.
Hopefully a solution will be found and I can reactivate this project in the future.

The main difficulty is that you end up with several projects apparently running at the same time, and getting very long crunch time to nowhere.

Any ideas!!
