I use BoincTasks but do not see a "red X" on the Notices tab to delete this message. Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks!

You have to "collapse" the message with the minus button at the left of the header first.

I'm not very familiar with how Chromebooks operate, but I see that some of them now come with permanent storage and have some integration with Android. If you can get regular Android apps, you can download the BOINC client but Rosetta only supports Android on ARM processors; it seems that most (but not all) Chromebooks are x86. I think your best bet would be to boot into Linux from a USB stick and run BOINC that way, assuming they allow you to boot from external devices.

Rosetta has never had work for gpu (and most likely will never have)

Derp, too many projects to keep track of. Disregard.

I was guessing that he's getting GPU tasks from Rosetta, since WCG doesn't currently have any GPU apps.

6) Message boards : Rosetta@home Science : Clean Energy research (Message 87541)

I've been a contributor to Rosetta on and off for a long time, that's the first association I've heard of with energy. World Community Grid has had a few phases of a "Clean Energy Project" dealing with organic solar panels, but they are both wrapped up. QMC@Home started a secondary project called "Clean Mobility Now" that dealt with batteries, but their website is incomplete and it doesn't seem like they really got off the ground. I'm not aware of any other currently running projects.
7) Message boards : Number crunching : Rosetta@home - Less work than active hosts on boincstats.com (Message 81220)

Welcome to BOINC; I'm not speaking for Rosetta specifically, but in general there might be times when there is no work because the staff are overwhelmed dealing with the already completed results, they haven't anticipated work for the available computation, server maintenance, and many other issues.

If you are looking to keep your hosts busy even during a potential downtime, I suggest that you find at least one other "backup" project; if you don't want to divvy up your resources, you can set it to a resource share of 0 so that it will only receive work when your primary project(s) have none available.

There are other projects that are less stringent about deadlines; BURP is one example--the deadlines there are to trigger additional replications of tasks to get the rendering done for the artist faster. Everyone gets credit for completing the tasks regardless of whether they are completed after the deadline or not, though that doesn't really help out the artist. But, there is not a constant flow of work available since the project relies on the community to upload sessions to be rendered.

CPDN has a few different applications running, but for many of them the deadline is a year--one which I use on some of my hosts that don't run very often.

I'm sure there is a project out there that would have deadlines that work for your computing schedule, although I don't know of any place that hosts that information (like WUprop does for computation time, credit awarded, etc) in one place for easy reference.

I mean im not sure if all of them are like that, but if you dont pay it off in three months forget about it, your spending 500 dollars worth of interest.

If you're talking about places like Aaron's, that's the business they are in. They make (lots of) money off people who are desperate enough to rent something now, rather than save up the money to buy it a little later for cheaper.

There are also places that lease more powerful systems such as workstations to companies, have you checked on how much they charge?

With rent/lease, upkeep, and utilities, would that be any cheaper than using Amazon AWS or other shared hosting service?

If you don't have access to your login credentials or the email address, you're probably out of luck. Such authentication measures exist for a reason; you could ask the administrator at BOINCstats to reset your password, but there's no guarantee.

According to BOINCstats, it's currently 103.581 TeraFLOPS.

TeraFLOPS estimate: 218.893

I wonder where the differences can be attributed to?

If you wanted to include ASIC/FPGA computation, it would soundly be #1.
15) Message boards : Number crunching : PowerPC Support (Message 75675)
Posted 27 May 2013 by noderaser
Post:
I see that Rosetta is one of the few projects that still even advertises support for PowerPC processors running OS X. However, I've been attached to the project with my dual G5 for the better part of a year and have yet to receive any work for it. Shall I assume that support for this platform by your project has been discontinued? If so, please update your "Applications" page.

I'm sure this topic will include posts about PowerPC being old and useless, etc. but the computer is going to be used whether there are still BOINC projects that support it or not--I just figured that the unused portion of its computing resources could be doing something other than just being idle. After all, that's sort of the point of BOINC.
