Hello Moderators,

There appears to be a spam account (Medstoreonline) that was created on 18 September advertising potency medication.

I have a feeling this runs afoul of forum rules.

The new BOINC client (version 7.16.11) is available for macOS. You may have noticed that it is signed by Charlie Fenton, which can trigger security messages, for example from Little Snitch, etc. similar to:

Charlie Fenton (R2TC2Z4282)" instead of "The University California Berkeley (ZVCAM664D8)".

The developer has confirmed that this is to be expected. Cross-linking his post on the BOINC boards.

It seems that the new 7.16.11 version of the BOINC manager seems to have solved the issue. The screen saver graphics are working perfectly now.

Thank you for the response, @Grant (SSSF). I didn't realize that the message was talking about the server.

Hello,

Since last night my BOINC manager has seemed to have stalled with the message "No work available to process." I have tried the following:

    Restarting BOINC manager
    Restarting the machine
    Deactivating my VPN
    Removing and re-adding the project
Uninstalling BOINC manager (including the library and preference files) and reinstalling

Nothing seems to work. Strangely when I try to re-add the Rosetta project to BOINC it tells me "This project may not work for your type of computer." I did not have that message when I added the project originally. Unfortunately, the log is not terribly helpful in this case.

Has anyone seen this problem? My other Mac continues to process tasks without interruption.

Thanks for any insight!

A good suggestion. Is anyone else seeing problems with their BOINC losing its internet connection when you connect to ProtonVPN or any other VPN?

Thanks for the continued suggestions. I do not use any of the Boinc tools to schedule network activity nor is it schedules to only run at certain times of the day. It runs continually.

I am fairly confident that the problem lies with the VPN somehow. I have consistency demonstrated over the past week or so that the problem only occurs when I am connected to the VPN. If I disconnect from the VPN, BOINC immediately reestablishes its connection and can upload finished jobs and download new.

Can't believe I didn't see that menu option. Thanks for pointing that out! I first saw the message in the list of notices, if I am not mistaken. Looking into the log, unfortunately little more information is exposed. In fact the message is exactly the same.

This is true. I disconnect periodically so it can upload its completed tasks and download new. The problem is still persisting however. Can you please direct me to where the logs are? There is nothing helpful in /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/BOINC and I can't find any BOINC/Rosetta-related output in the console.

Thanks for responding. I can not say for certain, but I believe I changed the URL late last week, maybe Thursday or Friday (14-15 May). I only changed it on one of the machines since the other one was already processing.

Hello,

Recently, I have received notices from Boinc manager in the form of "BOINC can't access Internet - check network connection or proxy configuration." However I have changed nothing in my computer's setup. It seems that it now does not like my VPN. Once I disconnect from VPN, it is able to connect without a problem. Once I reconnect the VPN, it tells me it has lost its internet connection.

My VPN worked fine with Boinc before. I am not sure if it is a red herring, but this change of behavior seems to have coincided with Rosetta's move to HTTPS. I found this mention of something similar, but am not sure if it applies.

Anyone else seen this or have any tips?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Mod.Sense. Though I understand that the graphics can take some computer power, it is a nice "wow" factor of the software and I would still like a solution if anyone has a suggestion. I thought perhaps it could not handle my external monitor, but once detached, it still gives the same error. The screen saver seems to work just fine on my 2009 iMac.

dogboy, what make/model do you have? I am seeing trouble on a late 2014 iMac on 10.15.4. Maybe we have a commonality? Will post back if I find anything further.

Hello,

I am just getting started with Rosetta@home and have been processing tasks for a few days now. Unfortunately when the screen save starts, after showing the message "starting screen save graphics, please wait" for a couple of seconds, it then shows "Could not connect to screen saver of application rosetta mini." However when I open the graphics in the Boinc manager, they show without problem. Any ideas?

Thanks!
