Is it possible for 2 different operating systems to share the same tasks?

Posted 2 Jul 2020 by Stret Post: Alternatively is there a way to extend a deadlineNope. Sadly I'm not really in a position to do that at least - yet, I think the other option might be that I just try and stay logged on to my linux account more and only use my windows one for gaming. It would be the first real reason for me to ever go beyond 16GB of RAM! Nice research on my previous threads by the way! At least I assume that's where you got the information about my hardware :P . |

Posted 1 Jul 2020 by Stret Post: Can you not run Boinc under each os separately, each with its own tasks so that whichever side you’re on you’re processing? I mean of course I can, but I was hoping not to because I don't want to get half way through a task and then switch away from it, switch back to it, and then find I'm past the deadline :/ NO it is not possible, there are security checks due to past cheating at various projects. One idea would be to run the task at night so you can finish the task before you have to do all the switching, then in the morning just stop the task and pick it up again when you are done switching. That's a shame. I hope I don't miss deadlines because of this. Alternatively is there a way to extend a deadline if I'm near to completing a task but about to go over the allotted time due to that operating system being powered down? Sad to hear people cheating, the whole point of this is medical research. |

Posted 1 Jul 2020 by Stret Post: One of the things that is limiting my R@H is that I switch my computer between windows and manjaro (an arch linux based operating system). Is it possible to power my computer off from windows mid task, and power on to manjaro, so that manjaro then continues the work on said task? Thanks a lot for any and all help :) |

screensaver crashing computer
(Message 95907)
Posted 3 May 2020 by Stret Post: Hmm, I'm not sure I've ever heard of the screen saver crashing a computer. If this happens again, there should be a stderrgfx.txt file in the slot directory. It may provide some info. If you give me the exact path to go into from c:// I'll try and extract it, but struggling to find it at the moment, given that this has happened multiple times I'd guess there should be one already? Only on the first boot since it last happened. Only thing that might potentially get in the way of that is I just updated the url to be the https:// so I removed the old project. |

screensaver crashing computer

Posted 2 May 2020 by Stret Post: I've had it happen to me a couple times. I think it's better to just not use the BOINC screen saver. BTW, what is the GPU of the computer where this happened? The GPU is a 1080 (Nvidia), but as R@H doesn't use GPU's I set that to F@H when I'm asleep and leave R@H running all of the time. Are you only running Rosetta or are there other projects involved? F@H was installed but not running at the time of crash as it was mid-day, I set my GPU to F@H when I'm asleep. Only other things were normal things, firefox, slack, discord etc. |

screensaver crashing computer
(Message 95838)
Posted 2 May 2020 by Stret Post: Feel free to move if in the wrong place. I had a suspicion that the screensaver was crashing my computer (not all the time, seems to crash sometimes when it is showing the progress of work units). I changed it to be foldingathome demo, then updated that and during the reinstallation forgot to redefault the screensaver away from boinc rosetta progress, and again, it's started crashing my computer. Windows 10 boinc fully up to date i7 7700K 1080 GPU 16 GB ram A screensaver that crashes computers is less than useful, so unless this is somehow a one off bug for just me, would consider scrapping it entirely as: 1) puts me off roestta at home 2) stops work units progressing because crashed 3) can't be good for my PC to force it to reboot |

Rosetta 4.1+ and 4.2+
(Message 94690)
Posted 17 Apr 2020 by Stret Post: Please move to relevant forum, I was struggling to find a help section. One of my work units has been running for over a day (unusual in and of itself) and is not geting up at all, it says it is 10 minutes from finishing, but that hasn't changed in over 12 hours. I suspect based on my rudamentory programming knowledge that it has hit an infinite loop. What is the best way forward? There's no point in it hitting its deadline and doing the same on another machine. copy and paste from propeties of WU: Application Rosetta 4.15 Name 12v1n_al_12mer_design_00003_000575_0001_SAVE_ALL_OUT_913418_17 State Running Received 15/04/2020 07:16:00 Report deadline 18/04/2020 07:16:02 Estimated computation size 80,000 GFLOPs CPU time 1d 05:34:42 CPU time since checkpoint 1d 05:34:42 Elapsed time 1d 05:55:59 Estimated time remaining 00:10:07 Fraction done 99.439% Virtual memory size 244.53 MB Working set size 48.34 MB Directory slots/5 Process ID 26968 Progress rate 3.240% per hour Executable rosetta_4.15_windows_x86_64.exe |
