21) Message boards : Number crunching : Did you build for boinc only? (Message 61458)

Well I don't have a core i7 yet but I can tell you they are pretty expensive still. Just the i7 920 CPU and motherboard cost $529 from tigerdirect and then you would need everything else too so from my estimates a well equipped machine would cost around $1000. Also I wouldn't recommend the 965 since just the CPU alone costs $999 and all of the I7's have an unlocked multiplier anyways.

It would be nice if they put two of those in the mac pro. Then we would have 32 threads!

weird... It is the complete opposite for me though. Every single 1.67 fails and all of the 5.98s run great. Is that windows 7 your running there too?

Also alot of errors seem to be on my mac and not my windows machine so it must be something with to do with apple.

I have only seen about 3 or 4 WUs crash on my mac mini since I started it here last year but several 1.67 WUs have crashed recently. My other computers are doing the same thing too so is this happening to anyone else or just me? EDIT Also I forgot to say that these were in my logs after a few of the crashes on both my mini and P4 machine

Hi.

Is the validator really running i know it's been slow for a while, but i have

three tasks that have been sitting there for hours and still nothing.

pete.

I think it is broken even though the server stats page says it is ok. I have several tasks waiting as pending too.

Now it would be interesting to see how fast a system with 30 thousand GPUs would be. If you used 30,000 of something such as this http://game.amd.com/us-en/unlock_radeonhd4870x2.aspx?p=1 which has 2.4 Teraflops each you could have a 72000 Teraflop server! That would be crazy!

yeah they NEED to do both the gpu and cpu optimizations soon! We are loosing so much processing power by not doing these things. As an example on the project milkyway@home some gpu enabled computers have almost 200,000 Rac! We really need to take advantage of all of these ready to use GPU's. Here is one card that on its own has 1 teraflop of power!! As of this writing the whole project had 90 teraflops so just getting a couple hundred people using a card such as this could double our power.
