Odd. "Show Computers" only shows 3 PCs active on your account since May and none of the current results show any with errors. All completed results show as successful. Where are these errors you're reporting?

I've been getting this error on all 5 PCs[1073741819(0xC0000005)], More WUs have succeeded than errored out of course, Some PCs have updated graphics drivers(PC1 & PC2), Some don't(PC3-5), Some are overclocked to the max(PC2, PC4 & PC5), One is overclocked less(PC1) and One is at stock speed(PC3), 4 use XP x64 and a Native x64 Boinc Client(Crunch3r's Boinc 5.9.0.64, over Boinc 5.9.11 for XP x64) and 1 uses XP Pro and a Native x32 Boinc Client(Boinc 5.9.11 for XP Pro/2000), All Boincs are as updated as I feel is needed at present and the systems worked fine under Seti, I can only guess that since all 5 are using the same 32bit Beta Rosetta application namely:

rosetta@home rosetta_beta version 576

That It might be related to 5.76 somehow and I'm no scientist or programmer, Just a guy who runs PCs that I built Myself(Networked too, Self taught on the Networking, 27 years of computer usage and two computer courses in the early 80's in Basic and Computers[So I know the inner workings of a computer and understand the terms too, But then I've used 7 different OSes since then in 4 different types of computers up to the present time]). But then I'm pretty comfortable with computers and always have been for some reason.

On top of that I'm down to 3 WUs on PC1(1:20:00 almost)[XP x64],
PC2 has about 1.5 days[XP Pro],
PC3 has a little over 17 hours of work[XP x64],
PC4 has about 1.5 days and[XP x64],
PC5 has about 3.5 days[XP x64].

Is there anyway I can get an earlier version of 5.76 or is this less error prone than the earlier versions of the app or am I stuck with this until a newer version comes out?

Oh and I sweep My PCs for adware/spyware/malware and keep My AV software upto date.

The PCs stay pretty cool too, 4 use Vigor Monsoon II cpu coolers and 1 uses an XP120 & a 120mm cpu fan(PC2).

That's cause, Not too long after that I'd put the 3 PCs on "the Swordfish" account here in Rosetta and added 2 more PCs That I'd tried swapping psus(PC4 & PC5), That didn't work so I had to reswap the psus and now the two PCs work again, Even If I had to do a warm boot on PC4(PC5 doesn't require a warm boot), Only the psus, cpus, ram & optical drives vary between the two PCs, Even If they do run at the same speed. :D (50C & 35C respectively[cpu temps]).

Batman, no you cannot control the Rosetta version that runs. This is determined by the project when you download work.

Here is a link to some BOINC info. on that error code 0xC0000005. One of the potential issues listed in memory. Have you run a memory test on these machines for an extended period of time? There are a number of other issues listed there which you might check.

I don't know why, but they neglect to mention the possibility that the project does have a bug. However, as you suggested, error rates have been getting lower with each new Rosetta release.

Am I correct to presume you saw fewer, if any, such errors on prior versions of Rosetta? Is there any commonality to the task names that are failing? Do you use the BOINC screensaver on these machines?

Ok, That's settled, Too bad there isn't an XP x64 rosetta app though.

All the PCs use different types of ram(DDR2, DDR, RegDDR), PC3 qualifies as a server as It uses registered ram and has dual cpus, Under Seti I had no problems any of the PCs.

I wonder what that bug is, Too bad I can't spray It with RAID. ;)

I've only noted what I've read and some of what My own PCs did a while back, Of course I don't know what the version number is that I crunched under back then. Mo idea. Nope No screen saver, I Don't use any screen saver on any of the PCs I own and use and the Monitor is an LCD, So why would I need to?

Like some have said run a lot of PCs or a few Quad core cpus, Mine are mostly offline at the moment cause a swamp cooler motor got ate last night. :(

I'm running Boinc 5.9.0(64 bit) under XP x64 with the 5.76 "Beta" 32 bit app, Of course a 64 bit app would be nice, Maybe one will come about one day.

Why are you using an old original development version of BOINC when there is a much newer and has had lot of bugs removed version available.
(just curious)

Actually I used Crunch3r's 5.9.0.64 64bit files to override Boinc 5.9.12 as 5.9.0.64 has the ability to work with BoincView the way I like and of course a few other features, When Crunch makes a newer version in the 5.10.xx series I'll upgrade then of course, Right now It's a moot point as 4 of My 5 PCs are off since the Swamp Cooler ate a motor last night and hopefully It'll get replaced soon as It's heading towards 108F outside(85F inside right now) and My main PC(PC1) has been de-overclocked to allow It to run without killing Itself and Me. But the Beta 5.76 is working fine so far and taking about 3.5 hours per WU on this 2.66GHz QX6700 cpu. :D

Yeah I was wondering why the app says Beta 5.76, Of course I'm running a 64bit version of Boinc 5.9.0 in XP x64 and the Beta app is a 32bit app too, A 64bit app would be nice of course.

@The_batman - What's preventing you from running R@H on your XP-X64 machines? I've got 20 machines, all running 64-bit linux, and they're crunching away at Rosetta. Rosetta is a much more beneficial project than SETI IMO.

It seems not much, I just wish I had a 64bit Rosetta Application as that would be 10-20% faster, Right now I'm running the Beta 5.76 app(32bit) as I have the Boinc 5.9.0 64bit Boinc client for XP x64.

Oh and right now since the swamp cooler needs Its motor replaced I only have one PC running. :( The motor should be replaced sometime on Thursday I hope.

If 64bit operating systems and CPUs were twice as fast at everything, you definitely would have seen press releases to that effect. They aren't. Performing a floating point operation still takes one clock tick. They can often move volumes of data faster, but Rosetta doesn't need much of that type of operation.

The current implementation is simply to allow the 32bit version of Rosetta to run on 64bit operating systems. So it is just a way to support a 64bit client, but no optimization for a 64bit environment has been performed at this point.

Well of My 5 PCs, Only one uses a 32bit Boinc anymore as It runs under XP Pro, The others run under XP x64 and so the Clients are 5.9.0 and 64bit, One day I'd love to run Rosetta again, But It looks like I'll only be able to do so on one PC and a dual core at that, At least until the 64bit Windows Boinc Clients are supported, If their not already(No idea really). An optimized 64bit app would have been nice of course, In Seti there is a 10-20% speed up by the app over the same 32bit Seti app in Windows, This has been acknowledged by the Seti project staff.

Hi,

My company has a policy that executables shouldn't be downloaded. I am unable to support you as the work units are not getting downloaded. Is there any other way for me to get the work units zipped?? Temporarily can you remove the .exe extension while sending the file??

Regards,
Kiran

Rosetta and Seti WUs don't have exe after them as extensions, The only exe files are files You install from what You bring from home. If You are able to install Boinc and Rosetta and/or Seti then You have a different problem I'd think. Maybe Rosetta/Seti could, But It would be easier to bring in an Optimized app for Seti.

i think it will download anything it is offered, problem is there is no platform setup on rosetta.
during upgrade i had existing units taken over. but now i cant return them:

06/05/2007 01:56:29|rosetta@home|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509]
06/05/2007 01:56:29|rosetta@home|Message from server: platform 'windows_x86_64' not found

The projects need to support the standard platform designation of "windows_x86_64" and not "windows_amd64" or whatever they're supporting now.

true but that's not the problem here.

Rosetta@home have not released a compatible 64bit client, though the will be using the boinc x86_64 when they bring the '64bit compatible' one over to here that is in testing at ralph@home. Note it's just the 32bit one made to look to the client like a 64bit one.

Both Linux and windows are being tested.

That should be an application, Not a Client, As Boinc is the Client.
