1) Message boards : Number crunching : More threads on VM tasks possible? (Message 109164)

Hi
I've decided to give Rosetta a go again. But am reluctant to do so with amount of memory VM tasks take.

My PC has a 5950X CPU (16c/32t) and 128GB of RAM. IF I don't select a CPU runtime value in my options, Rosetta defaults to 8hrs.

I then get a heap of VM tasks, and with 32 threads running, it soon eats up all my RAM and even some swap space on my drive.

Is there a way to adjust how many threads are running for each VM task? So if I could select 2 threads per VM, I'd have 16 concurrent tasks, which I believe would take up less RAM.

Currently I've selected a CPU runtime of 2hrs, and am just getting Rosetta BETA tasks, which is ok for now. I would like to crunch some VM tasks without using RAM over my physical limit and swap space.

Many thanks. I have aborted those 4 tasks.

Hi
I currently have 4 Python tasks sitting on 99.XXX% complete. Two have failed to be completed by the deadline.

Should I abort them or let them be? Will I get any credit for completion?

RAM usage is around 5GB. This doesn't seem right. I have 32GB in my system. Only allowing 25% usage of the CPU.

One task has completed around 25%, but has been "postponed". Why?

I allocated another 50GB of disk space as BOINC Manager messages requested another 10GB. All seem to be ok now?

Hi
Just updated Virtualbox to latest web version (via deb) and allocated 55GB of disk space for Rosetta.

I'm running this on Linux Mint 20.3. All goes well except BOINC Manager response time is very slow and laggy. Any hints on how to improve it?

3-6 tasks are crunching as I can see in System Monitor and hear fan speed on high. So something is happening!!
