1) Message boards : Number crunching : New type of WU? (Message 1570)

I have two of these at the moment; one running, one ready-to-run. The one running stands at 70% complete after 18 minutes; the second one shows a time-to-completion of over five hours...so I'd guess that the "completion time bug" is still with us.

Interesting to note that the percent complete jumps in 10% increments, instead of 8.33% as in Rosetta 4.77.

(EDIT--WU completed in just over thirty minutes.)

@adrianxw

Wow...never seen one take that long. I've seen the 1acf units take anywhere from 8,000 to 14,000 seconds on my machine (Athlon XP 3000+, 1.5GB RAM, WinXP SP2, BOINC 4.45). I applaude your patience; I would have been trying every trick in the book to "kick-start" it after five hours, and probably would have screwed things up in the process. :)

I've had five 1acf work units so far, and they average almost three and a half hours on my machine...quite a bit longer than the 'typical' work unit, which runs in about two hours. I don't know what 1acf is, but when I see it in my BOINC work queue, I shrug and go take a nap. :)

Well, the logs are long since gone...but if I remember correctly, I had a two Predictors and one SETI unit standing by when the Rosetta unit finished. Predictor and SETI continued to run, finish, upload, and download new work with no hitches for seven or eight hours, while Rosetta wasn't even attempting to connect.

Since it hasn't happened again, and given the absence of responses to this post, I'm guessing that it was an isolated quirk. Everything's running fine now, at least. <shrug>

Had an odd one this morning when I woke up. Seems to have started with this work unit. (My computer ID is 3214.)

It looks as though I completed a WU that no one else was able to...afterwards, however, my computer simply stopped communicating with the project. No attempts at downloading new work, wasn't even attempting communication according to the log.

I'm not in 'panic mode', as LHC ran out of work and I only have Predictor, SETI, and Rosetta running now...Predictor and SETI were finishing work, uploading and downloading with no problems.

Tried a manual update...no joy.

Only a complete project reset seemed to resolve it, as I now have a new WU to crunch.

Bottom line, I guess, is that the issue is resolved for me...just wondering if anyone else has seen this type of behavior.

(edited to remove redundant information...that's what I get for posting before coffee)

New user here; completed my first Rosetta WU overnight using 4.77 in just a shade over two hours. No issues with suspend/resume, BOINC shutdown/restart, or switching between projects.
