When that happens, your efforts to alert us to these problems are extremely important and very much appreciated.

Hello,
I keep getting only tasks where right after download, "Computational Error" shows in the task progress bar. I use BOINC Manager 7.0.25. Since I got about 10 of those, I have Rosetta suspended. I will soon try again. I hope the errors stop by then.
webber26

you should upgrade to .28 and see if you still get the problem.
.25 had a bug in it that caused all kinds of weird things to happen on different projects.

I'm having similar issues and on the .25 version. When will .28 be the recommended version? I'm hesitant to change to a development version on the Manager.

This works for the 'can't attach to shared memory' problem as well. Just keep hitting the 'update' button.

I'm not getting the 'project is down' message. I'm getting the 'can't attach to shared memory' message.

Hope it does get the master file sooner or later, how are people who don't 'watch' their BOINC installations on a regular basis going to know to change these files?

Well, that's a great fix if you have a couple of computers near you that you can perform the edits on, but I've got 20+ running all over the office and getting to each one to edit a few files would be pretty tough.

Any other suggestions?

Mr. Hireme,

Checked out your website. You have some fine ideas, but why would someone give you some cash or a new computer? All I see are words on a page. Do you have some code in a repository that we can see? I guess what I'm asking is how do we know, given a non-broken computer, that something will actually happen?

From Technical news:
"DK, our primary site developer, is recovering from surgery and is out of contact. When the troubles arose DK's status wasn't known to the IT group, resulting in confusion. Rhiju stepped in and provided the fix. We apologize for the outage..."

Us crunchers really appreciate the hard work. Hope DK is well.

It's funny to me what people get angry about. With all the wrong things that happen in my community, my state and my country, how people can get so upset when their needs are not met by a hobby is mind bending to me.

Take a deep breath. Have a good beer.

I mean it's not like Rosetta has turned into Predictor! :)

I understand, I think, that Trey is just trying to vent his frustration. I agree with Xaak that this might not be the correct thread to vent an overall lack of confidence type of thing. Maybe you should start a "lack of confidence" thread?

Say what your want, but over the lifetime of this project so far, people associated with Rosetta seem to me to be a pretty responsive group. There have certainly been times where communication has been an issue, but then things get rolling well again. I'm sure this has to do with staff levels, vacations, teaching, paper writing, conferences, and just generally having a life other than what goes on here.

Your link does not provide any references to the four independent studies it references that verified that vitamin C worked. I guess the bottom line is, since vitamin C, according to your sources, can kill cancer and make people live 5 to 12 years longer, exactly where are all these people? This has been going on since 1970, there should be thousands of people who have tried this alternate treatment and have gone on to live for 5 to 12 years. Where are they?

Again, verifiable facts is all I'm asking. You can quote whoever and talk about Linus Pauling but I have yet to see anything Griffin or Pauling has said or done verifiably and repeatably cure anyone from cancer. If the data exists, please point us all to it.

Here's a fact about vitamin C and cancer: "Three prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled trials were conducted by Moertel et al. at the Mayo Clinic; all three failed to prove a benefit for megadoses of vitamin C in cancer patients"

Here are the references for all three trials:
New England Journal of Medicine 301:687-690, 1979.
Cancer Research 35:3075-3083, 1975.
Proceedings of the American Society of Clinical Oncology 2:92, 1983.

Yes, Chemo is not generally a cure. My doc says chemo helps 20% of patients but affects 100% of them. I do not do general chemo because my cancer doesn't respond to it, but for others it works 20% of the time (more or less). Not a cure, but it can help 20% of the time. The snake oil these other guys are selling does not help anyone.

Certainly keep an open mind and research every avenue possible, but when confronted with verifiable facts that a certain treatment doesn't work maybe you could reconsider your premise.

Steve

Mightyman,

In your link most all of the references are to Griffin's own book and the Oasis Cancer clinic, which is his own center. The AMA ( which is not the best, but it's all we've got in the US) did studies on what Griffin is selling and has no evidence that it works. If Griffin could find a handful of people that his treatment has actually helped all he has to do is show the scientific community his verifiable results. He can't do that because there are no verifiable results.

I buried a friend 5 years ago because she went off her chemo and on to one of these miracle cures like Griffin is selling. They don't work. I'm sorry. I wish they did.

G. Edward Griffin is a quack. Some of us who contribute here have cancer, please don't post this type of thing without doing some research first.

The bug is listed. A new client version is coming soon. I solved this part by merging the last host entry with others. No new host was created.

Thanks! I don't think we can merge right now in Rosetta though.

There is a known bug in the BOINC BAM system that caused this problem. IF you stop using the BAM the problem will stop by itself

Stopping BAM doesn't help. I tried that earlier in the week and it did no good. I think UBT - Halifax--lad has the most correct info on this right now from what I've read in other forums.

Thanks Moderator9 and UBT - Halifax--lad for all your help. I guess I'll just keep crunching and let things sort themselves out. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a quick break in the action that will allow the patch to be applied. I certainly understand any reluctance to modify things while CASP is in progress.

Hi. I added, a few days ago a new machine to crunch Rosetta ( as well as a few other projects) on Rosetta it seems that everytime this machine connects it generates a new host ID. On one of the BOINC boards I frequent it was suggested that this had something to do with the version of software running at the host site. Is there any way this could be checked?

Thanks

Steve

Are you using a Boinc Account Manager like the one at BoincStats......

I've read about an issue with other projects where a new host was set up everytime the host connected to the project

Yes, I am. Where can I get some info on what might be happening?

Thanks!

I'm not getting any errors in the message tab. I just keep getting this same machine regestered as a new machine over and over again.
