1) Message boards : Number crunching : 1 percent status and Time to Completion (Message 38552)

Bzag00, if you or others didn't notice it, according to Rhiju's post here, Rosetta v5.55 will show a better estimate of percentage of work done.

Soon, the 1.xx% until the first decoy is finished will join the Rosetta option where it would run a set number (10?) of decoys and then call home for more work. I.e. be used in the "I remember when" type threads.

If you're working on a large WU, it can take a long time to update the status. 1% or 1.024% are not actual percentage measurements of the work done. The .024 means that it's at the 24th step in the creation of your first decoy. Once you finish your first decoy, Rosetta gives you an actual estimate based on the time taken to create your first decoy and your run time setting. If your run time setting is 4 hours, and the first decoy took 2 hours, it will state that it's 50% done.

If nothing happens for a sufficiently long time period, the watchdog process will terminate that WU, and start the next WU.

It sounds like you weren't patient enough.

vp10__BOINC_ABRELAX_cterm_hom002__1581_17304 is this the WU you terminated (on the 11th), or is there another one that you aborted today?

Because I moved it, renaming was actually an option. I'll see about having it linked in the FAQ. I look forward to seeing Sony stop back in and tell us they've got it working on Freebsd as well. Thanks for the effort, Alpha.

I passed this on to the programming team. Hopefully they can track down the source of the errant WUs, remove them from the queue and replace them with good ones quickly.

Which flavors of Linux/Unix aren't supported? And are there tricks to getting it to run under those OSes that aren't directly supported?

I moved the tech support discussion in the "no communication" thread in the Science forum into this thread. Let's help get these 2 win98 machines back to running Rosetta.

How many spots can you stop Rosetta in the Boinc client? I remember having troubles switching from 100% Rosetta to 100% Ralph and back.

This thread moved from the Science forum as suggested. Note that Chu and the Rosetta programming team are looking for detailed reports to help track down the cause of these Rosetta screen saver errors.

reported by Rhiju in Rosetta App Version Release Log

"In Rosetta 5.3.6:

The workunits with varying bond geometry were slow in the previous release, and led to some very uneven crediting. We've put in features that significantly accelerate those workunits. There are also fixes that will allow us to test more accurate energy functions.

There are some fixes for graphics to make the native fold always show up. Finally, we're trying out a new output format that will enable us to send back results for designed proteins (e.g., for HIV vaccines) in compressed format.

When posting errors, give links to the machine having the problem. Give links to the WUs that had the errors you're talking about. If your computers are "hidden" consider making them visible while your system is having problems. If you've tried a few diagnostic steps, please mention them. If you're running unusual software or unusual hardware that might possibly cause windows problems then please mention it. For diagnosing.. too much information is much better than too little.

Sorry, this is not a reply to the message.
I get the error message that my computer is over comitted. Therefore I believe I need to remove a project from GridRepublic/BOINC. After consideration, I decided to 'give Rosetta the axe'.
The DETACH tab is 'blanked' and (of course) does not respond. How can I work around this to remove ROSETTA from my projects?
Thanks, Pete

There's been a few discussions about projects being labeled as overcommitted in the Number Crunching forum. Before disconnecting from Rosetta, you might want to ask about the over committed status in the Number Crunching forum. They can help identify if it's a Boinc 5.4.11 issue, having a project on your list that hasn't had any work for weeks, etc. Or identify settings you may need to change so you manage to finish more Rosetta WUs without errors.

To stop work being downloaded for a project, you can do what I did to Ralph. Change it to "no new work" status.

Prior to being moved here, Ace's original thread title mentioned that it kept crashing at 23.42%. Can the programmers tell us what is happening at step 42? And why it didn't give the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything?

Passed this on to the Rosetta Team, so there's probably someone at the download server trying to teach the NIC how to speak Internet again. <attempt at humor>

We should get a response here when they've tracked down the problem, and given us a batch of error free WUs to download.

Passed this on in case they don't spot it here first. From a troubleshooting FAQ from a game: Have you tried a newer video driver? Have you tried an older video driver? Have you run a video ram test? (Can someone suggest a trusted video card testing software that can be downloaded?)
