Hi !

It seem's to me, that there are many projects working on the protein folding problem like:
rosetta@home
folding@home
predictor@home
worldcommunitygrid
... and maybe some more
Is my assumption correct that they are all targeting the same goal ? Why don't they combine efforts in a single project ? Or is this happening behind the scenes allready ? Thanx for your explanation, Marcus Tik

They actually all do slightly different things so it is worthwhile for them to operate seperately.

rosetta@home-mostly works on improving the rosetta modeling software itself.
folding@home-studies the machanics of the folding process.
predictor@home-attempts to predict what the final fold will be.
worldcommunitygrid-uses the rosetta software for actual studies.

So as you can see from this simplistic summary only rosetta and WCG are really ripe for combining.

SIMAP is another protien project, I am not familliar with it though.

Thanx for your answer - now the grand concept behind the scenes is a little bit clearer to me :-)

I have a related question (sorry if I don't post this in the right place): which of theses projects (if any) have the biggest short-term impact on current disease research? Or long-term, if you want to put it the other way around...

My knowledge of protein folding is much too thin (yet...) to figure it out myself...
