C:WindowsSystem32driversetchosts - had back-slashes removed when posted (just tried)

C:|Windows|System32|drivers|etc|hosts - change | to back-slash

I looked in hosts. It's blank.

The default Windows Hosts file isn't blank.

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.

Well my hosts file is...so what would be the cause of that?
I am at c>windows>system32>drivers>etc and the hosts file.

I followed this:
Press the Windows key.
Type Notepad in the search field.
In the search results, right-click Notepad and select Run as. administrator.
From Notepad, open the following file: c:WindowsSystem32Driversetchosts.

Same result, file is empty

At some stage, either you've cleared out it's contents or have run a programme that did so.
Is there a file named Hosts.old or similar there?

Not in etc folder, the only thing I did awhile back was disable ipv6 in the network and internet settings, is that causing this?

Grant - this has been the case since they stopped putting grad students on here and in turn started their focus on AI. That's where the money is. This project just gets stuff that does not fit the AI model.

That was a big factor, certainly, but I put it down to the departure of Mod.Sense - last post 14 Dec 2020

DNS issues, see earlier posts in this thread.

As a workaround add below to hosts file:

#Rosetta@home
128.95.160.156 boinc-files.bakerlab.org
128.95.160.156 bwsrv1.bakerlab.org

On Linux, to disable IPv6 temporarily (reverted after a reboot), execute as root:
sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1

To disable IPv6 permanently:
Add to /etc/sysctl.conf
net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1

Or to disable IPv6 for a specific network, add this to your network-manager connection file (/etc/NetworkManager/system-connection/xxx.nmconnection) and reconnect this network connection:
[ipv6]
method=disabled

Note: It's your sole responsibility to make sure such changes don't affect other works you need to complete on this OS.

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed :)

Not really deep, they haven't required us to mess with Windows Driver Signature Enforcement or Linux kernel parameters/modules.

Jokes aside I agree. These constant system fuckery really is burning every volunteer's energy to figure out and apply band-aids everywhere in our runners, while it should be their work to make sure their system works fine. I almost give up this time and went to Milkyway@Home this time.

I really hope when he's back it's not to announce the closure of this project...

As I have said before, we just get stuff that does not fit their models for their other operations.
So this won't close, it will just have large gaps of silence once we use up all the tasks and there is nothing left to run until the next non conforming job.

Hey, first of all there is no one from Baker Lab here..so your outrage will not be noticed by them. A person here already tried official channels to notify them of this problem and nothing has changed and no response was ever sent back and will not ever happen. This is a orphan project. We solve problems on our own.

If you scroll back down you will see the discussion of what is going on.
The only quick and dirty way I know of and what seems to be the case is to disable ipv6.
I posted a link back here
https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=6893&postid=112334#112334

Do that for now and report your tasks and then go back and read through everything posted on top of that and see if you can make any sense out of it.

But how do you disable for baker lab and leave it on for everything else? That's where I am stuck at.

Chatgtp says:
Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run:

powershell

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Block IPv6" dir=in action=block remoteip=<IPv6-ADDRESS> (which is?)

And I asked it to find bakerlab ipv 6 and got this reply from the ping -6 command: Ping request could not find host boinc.bakerlab.org Please check the name and try again.

When I did the command nslookup I get addresses: 128.95.160.156 and .157 which I assume are the addresses we are using in the ipv4 connect.

Adding the entries to the hosts file was all that was needed on my machines to get Rosetta functioning again -- IPv6 is still enabled.

Ok...so I add what to the host file content? just the numbers of the ip or is there specific server names or what?
ive seen just BOINC bakerlab with ip #'s and I have seen someone with some more speficfic names and different ip's. So what do I use?
