Message 111985 - Posted: 29 Jan 2025, 10:28:10 UTC - in response to Message 111943.

Is that actually a thing about Wednesdays?
Or is it just so frequent that you could say it about any day of the week and have a high chance of being right?
Anyway, you are right.

What day is it today? Third consecutive Wednesday.
Seems something scheduled....

I know you're joking (as was I) - it's just that it's falling into the category of "it's funny because it's true..."

A certificate that's not updated seems like a security risk to me. Not what DC needs. When will all be fixed?

Am I the only one concerned about this? Do we have a date where all SSL certificates will be updated so it's at least safe. I'm not a super cruncher so my work wont be missed but I suspended Rosetta until there is some hint of clarity.

The sad truth is that the people who take care of the software/hardware, i.e. the sysadmins, and the people who use the software, i.e. the biochemists or whatever they're called) seem to live in different realities.

And some of us question if either the Sysadmin's or the Biochemists ever poke their noses into the Forums. A once a month visit should be the minimum in my opinion.

At least once a week IMHO, or whenever new work is released.

And i notice boinc-process is still deceased.

I haven't gotten the faulty certificate message from Rosetta. But I do get it regularly when trying to upload my Asteroids tasks. I usually go to the site anyway.

Is this really a serious risk?

Tonight I got 16 Rosetta Beta 6.06 tasks. Of those, three ended as computer errors within 30 seconds of starting.

Similar results two days ago.

What the heck happened to Rosetta, they used to be one of the better DC projects and had a ton of support all the way around from UW? Now it seems to be one issue after another when they have paid people and University resources when many projects are run on almost all volunteer's. I like the projects they do be, but wow what a disappointment that they can't do basic security stuff and basic communications. Something has gone horribly wrong from the way the project used to be.

I'm here since almost the beginning of the project and the lack of communication is historical (and, i agree with you, recently is worse).
Now, with a lot of internal computational power, a lot of money from grants/founds/donations, R@H has become "secondary".
Despite this situation, a lot of reserches are done also thanks to we volunteers (if you see the list of the scientific papers).
And, at the end, this is a pity: you researchers have and active community, you have beta testers, you have cpus and, if you want, gpus.

Exploit us, we are happy!!

Yes, IMO it's a serious security issue as it is a prime opportunity for a bad actor to access your computer by telling you it is someone other than who it really is. Now I also think the risk is MUCH higher on Win than Mac or Linux, but still, having a current/valid SSL Certificate is so basic it is beyond me that with the resources available, it was ever an issue. An excuse if there is one is that the limited code allows only basic access to your computer even with a bad certificate. It's serious enough to me that I stopped crunching here and w/o someone in tech explaining it in detail and officially, I'm gone. This project is not worth risking security/privacy on my computer. Even if they don't care, I do. Especially so sad for a once great project which did so much.

My linux boxes can't download a zip file. This problem has been happening for awhile.

Here is one of their outputs to the boinc log:

It's an ongoing problem with the Rosetta server(s), see link below for a workaround.

I looked earlier and everything was fine and I thought of saying something here, until I realised it was early in the day and there was still time

I'm getting a "Computation Error" status on some of my Rosetta@home tasks, but only after they reach 100%. I'm running a lot of projects on BOINC and so far the only one with this or any error is Rosetta, so I'm thinking it's a compatibility issue or something? I'm on Windows 11. Thanks!

I have already answered your question in your previous posting in another topic.

In the future, please only post in one place about an error.
