Message 108849 - Posted: 15 Feb 2024, 22:23:02 UTC - in response to Message 108846.

Sorry again for the Posting, but i still having Issues with new Task (getting or computing a few more) yesterday i had 2 Tasks running and this morning, i started BOINC to finish them (because they where on 90% ish) they are just gone by updating the Tasks.
Your system shows only 2 recent Tasks, and they both completed & Validated.

Although it appears there are some issues with your system- something other than BOINC work is using a lot of your CPU time. 6hr 50min to do 4hr 50min, and even worse- 12hrs 5min to do 8hr 14min work shows a system that has a very large non-BOINC load (or you're using some sort of CPU throttling- completely un-necessary on a desktop with good cooling).

When i run low number of tasks at once cpu time for some reason is misreported.
Cpu load reads very low too in perfmon.exe /res
Microsoft refuses to fix it.
It started happening after i updated from windows 11 build 22000

Well now i just reset all Projects i run, now i got 17 new Tasks. I dont know whats ongoing, the only Thing i´ve changed of Hardware is the GPU but i dont think thats the Main Issue here? Hm, lets see if i found something myself.

Now all you need to do is find out what else is using your CPU so much.

Hi!

Rosetta is using 3.3 GB of storage, but I have no work units running and all completed WUs have transferred. Hitting update doesn't change anything.

Rosetta is using 6x more storage than my other two projects combined.

What gives?
Adam

P.S.Haven't gotten any new work units for days.

When you first connect to a project, you have no files for that project on your system.
When you first download work from a project, it will then download the necessary applications & support files, libraries & data to process those Tasks. If there are different applications, then each time you get work for a different application it will have to download all the files needed to process work that different application.
From then on, all that has to happen to process work is to just download the Task file.

If the project removed all the support files every time you finished processing work for a particular application, it would need to re-download all of those files all over again when you next got work that required them. That's why even if you don't have any work being done at present, you will still have all the files need to process that work on your system.
Some Projects have huge storage requirements for Tasks, but not much for the Application & other files. Some have huge Application & other files, but small Task file sizes. Some have small requirements for both. Some have huge requirements for both.
Guess where Rosetta fits in.

P.S.Haven't gotten any new work units for days.
Your system shows as having 4 Tasks being worked on now.

Hi Grant, thanks for the explanation! that makes a lot of sense.

And yes, right after I posted my question, Boinc downloaded new tasks. I hadn't gotten any for 4 days or so.

Your i7-12700F has several that it's doing, and has done, but you might want to sort that system out- 14 hours to do 10 hours work isn't a good sign.

Hi, I've been running Rosetta for years now, but I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that I keep getting errors saying that Rosetta has crashed. Looking at my past history, it appears I haven't successfully completed a task since 29th Feb. It seems that at that point, I was moved from Rosetta 4.20 to Beta v6.04. Is there a way to revert back to 4.20? I've suspended Rosetta for the moment.

If it matters, I don't use VBox with BOINC and I'm using BOINC Manager 7.4.2.1 on an an Nvidia GEForce GT 1030 graphics card, and and old AMD Phenom 1055T CPU

Thanks, Raj.

Whatever the problem is, it's with your system.
There are no issues with the present Beta tasks- you're the only one that's posted about them erroring out.

You could try whitelisting your BOINC data folders with your AV programme, if that doesn't help then Re-setting Rosetta may sort it out (it basically clears out all of the application & support files, and re-downloads them from scratch).

The errors they are having can be due to faulty system memory- however the Beta tasks use way (way!) less RAM than the Rosetta 4.20 ones do, so it's more likely due to corrupted data/application/support files/database than a physical RAM issue.

thanks, I've excluded the dataprojects directory from the AV and have reset the project and restarted it. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it completes. I'll report back when it does.

I tried again after doing a reset and got computation errors for each task after under a minute. Is there anything else I can do to debug?
