On some types of screens, yes.OLED? My phone has that, I guess more modern TV/monitors than I have also use it, although if they're plugged in who cares how much power they use? And it's a lot better for the eyes, some people even use add-ons like DarkReader to have all pages dark. Some pages are automatically light or dark, depanding on your OS or browser settings.Who says it's better for the eyes? I shouldn't think your eyes care. |

Like the "Aug2001 vintage 17" CRT monitor" I have just sold on ebay for £80 (and it is sitting on the floor here to be packed)Dunno why people go for old shit. I sold a 1980s photographic enlarger (to make poster prints from negatives - I guess you can still buy film?!?) for £350 to an Australian. That was 25kg and needed a lot of packaging! |

I was more thinking about something like OLED or LCD with background light, which adjusts itself to what's needed. Some actually change the brightness in different parts of the screen. |

sometimes while stuck at the desk for hours (at this time of year) I realise "oops its got dark" and have to switch a light on .I've wired the lightswitch to under my desk, so I can shut off the lights to stop my parrots squawking while I'm trying to concentrate or watch Piratebay, I mean TV. I have no problem with a bright monitor and a dark room, our eyes adjust automatically. Eh , What , Alien tecknology :-)I misread that(!) |

Holy sh*t indeed. Finally got some work, all tasks errored out within 30 seconds. Is it me? Is it the work? Anybody else have this problem? Cheers - rumple |

Holy sh*t! I thought the same about the extra heat. I've fitted a new draught excluder this afternoon too. A pity they couldn't come through a few days ago when WCG was down (and it was coldest) but now WCG is up again so I'm clearing those up first. |

Holy sh*t indeed. Finally got some work, all tasks errored out within 30 seconds. Mine have been going for 20 minutes without a problem and my PC is hardly the most stable. Maybe do a reboot and try again? They seem to be ok here based on initial impressions. |

Thanks - I'll try a reboot. Just now, BOINC says Rosetta downloads are subject to project backoff. WCG has seized the moment to send me a ton of work, so... |

Thanks - I'll try a reboot. WCG always seems to do that to me too. I just checked your past tasks and I notice all your Rosetta 4.20 tasks complete successfully, but all your Rosetta Beta 6.04 tasks crash out in seconds. I have no idea why that might happen, but it doesn't bode well for when you start Rosetta tasks again as they're all Rosetta Beta. Strange thing. |

Holy sh*t indeed. Finally got some work, all tasks errored out within 30 seconds. So far 6 errors and 99 good. The errors are hard with my wingman also failing and appear to be a data error in the config file. I’d say it’s all old7scaff units but I’ve had one, an old7scaff_7aa_hall_9 that’s completed and validated. |

There were a load of units with build errors causing failure early on, within a minute. Now all I have processed so far appear good. Paul. |

Does anyone know whether these Rosetta beta tasks run better in Windows or Linux? I ask because I recently discovered that WCG Smash Childhood Cancer tasks run much faster in Linux than Windows. I'm currently running the Rosetta beta tasks in Windows, but could switch to Linux if there is a significant advantage in doing so. |

Holy sh*t indeed. Finally got some work, all tasks errored out within 30 seconds. I had a lot of failures with old8scaff and old7scaff Rosetta Beta tasks too, but they were all received and returned by 30 Nov - also with a fair few successes tbf. The new batch all seem to be named new7snme_7aa_ndif and are running fine here (7hrs+) but I haven't returned any yet to confirm they validate successfully. They certainly don't crash after 5-20secs, which is the issue rumple seems to have. |

Holy sh*t indeed. Finally got some work, all tasks errored out within 30 seconds. Yes, another 100 new7 tasks completed and validated since then with no fails :-) |

The new batch all seem to be named new7snme_7aa_ndif and are running fine here (7hrs+) but I haven't returned any yet to confirm they validate successfully. Just looking at the front page and it currently shows: Total queued jobs: 2,181,531 In progress: 289,164 Successes last 24h: 425,210 Which only goes to show the pent up demand still here even though several people have indicated they're not asking for tasks any more since the supply began to run dry. 425k successfully returned in a day means there may only be 5 more days worth of tasks to keep us going, appreciated as they are. We can hope the admins appreciate the resource still available to them here, though I won't be holding my breath they do. Still, well done everyone. |

425k successfully returned in a day means there may only be 5 more days worth of tasks to keep us going, appreciated as they are. Decent guess. Tasks ran out a few hours ago. Yes, I did grab an extra few tasks for myself from the last few that were available. And yes, I have increased my runtime to 12hrs for those I have remaining just to eke them out that little bit longer. My principles are a temporary feast... |
