Message 106927 - Posted: 14 Sep 2022, 21:09:26 UTC - in response to Message 106924.

Looked at climate and its 0 all across the board.
They talk like a hit and miss type project.
Shove a whole bunch of work out and then nothing else is left after that's been taken.
How fast do they refresh the server?

I hate that too. Trouble with leaving that project on is that after a few weeks, my Boinc Client becomes so desperate for its work that it ignores other projects that have work. So I must set CPDN to no new tasks so that I can get work units for the other projects.

I notice that too. Boinc as usual isn't too bright. So it's asked Climate for tasks, and there are none, and it's not allowed to talk to it for another hour, this stops it talking to WCG because it's hoping for a Climate task in an hour's time. But there isn't, so it then asks WCG, but they have none left, but it could have got some half an hour ago! If you tweak the buffer (increase the minimum) it will always ask something else for work.

I use this bat script to force boinc to ask for work once every 266 seconds

cd e:\Program Files\BOINC
e:
:loop

TIMEOUT /T 10 /nobreak
boinccmd.exe --project http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org update

TIMEOUT /T 256 /nobreak
goto loop
I run only only openpandemics gpu on it

I do the same, but use Windows task scheduler. Bit fiddly to persuade to do what you want, but it means there isn't a bat file running non stop.

Long time user of Boinc, first time poster here, anyway, I thought I'd see what's up at the moment? Obviously "Tasks ready to send = 0" isn't exactly a good thing...

I thought I was having all sorts of issues with the servers etc I'm crunching on, very, very few of them seemed to be doing any work at all lately.

Probably explains why if there's zero work to do :|

Trouble is, too many projects have no work these days. Climate Prediction has had no Linux work since July. Rosetta has had no non-Python work in quite a while. World Community Grid was essentially down for about six months, although in the last few days, I have been getting a lot of work. MilkyWay and Universe have work most of the time, but I am not really interested in what they do. I have them set for minimum priority and Get No Tasks most of the time.

Well, Rosetta has not sent out work either for the past few days. Any idea why?
I would be keen on their Pythons, but nothing available :-(

There was a single dump of Python tasks and they have now been completed no guessing whether there will ever be any more.

I am now getting WCG tasks as fast as I can process them. Typically, 4 tasks are running and 8 are downloaded: ready-to-go.

I do not do LHC@home or Einstein@home.

Rosie died and all her work went to a AI.
Figured they abandoned this side of things once everyone left posting here.
Bakerlab turned into TAC.

I haven't been here for while. No idea why not - just forgot I suppose.
So I've only just realised Python tasks are exhausted and I haven't seen any Rosetta 4.20 tasks for as long or longer.

About time I asked the question, which I'll look to do in the next couple of days.

RAH is dead. They have their fancy AI and other play toys. Don't need PC's anymore.
I saw this coming when DB stopped posting here and when all the grad students stopped posting about projects.
And the final thing was there is no more forum control and even if you email them they ignore you.
To me that says they don't give **** about PC users anymore.
We might get some odds and ends once in a blue moon, but I think its dead to the PC world.

There are other projects that follow on RAH type work, but more specific. Denis,Quchem,SiDock all do CPU work on their specific types of projects. Denis still sends out some beta stuff, but that's just to refine their program a bit more. Other tasks they send out are normal. I have yet to have a crash there.

Please stop getting hysterical.
I have caught up on the messages since being away.
You post hysterically several times a day - maybe rightly, maybe not.
But even if you're right, shrieking about it day after day doesn't make the slightest difference to anything, except it is highly annoying.
Give yourself a rest and move on if you like.

Several times a day? excuse you! overexerating person. Put you money where you mouth is or your fingers.
I come once in awhile to see if there is anything new and I find you or someone else whining about not getting any work. Well? What do you expect? So shut your over working yap and move on yourself.

If you can prove otherwise go for it.
Show me where they are generating work for PC's? Show a post about any work done here in the last month.
Where is the information about the future of this side of the project?
I haven't see a shred of any of this in the last 2 months.

You know what...screw you...i'm out of here. You all can whine and complain and hope that something comes back...but it won't. Not any time soon.

I agree with Sid, you're overreacting and need to go have a joint. Boinc is not for you or me, it's for the science. it's used when it needs to be. There are loads and loads of projects, there's always something to run. i've got 2 phones, 10 CPUs, and 11 GPUs running Boinc 24/7. Always way too much to do. Always buying more kit, just got a Ryzen 3900X, my second Ryzen 9. if boinc runs out, go do Folding. they never run out, and do lots of important research on Cancer, Alzheimers, etc.

Only 919 Tasks in progress and 880 returned in the last 24hrs. Only the occasional dump of a few thousand Rosetta 4.20 Tasks every now & then. No messages from the project on the web site in months. 12 months (or more) since spam in the forums has been cleaned up.

Why do you expect them to waste time in the forums? Why do you expect a continuous flow of work?

since spam in the forums has been cleaned up.

still plenty in the "NEWS" forum/threads.
Time for a comment about the `Monty Python Dead Parrot sketch` of late it seems to fit Rosetta quite well .
