I love that song. Must download some Reggae.

You only gotta be rude to the admins a couple of times. Asking them why they're so useless for example, you know, just the truth.

I've been banned from the main Boinc forum 38 times! I've been banned for as little as "the Boinc scheduler was written by an idiot, get a real programmer".

Pretty stupid to have "If your account is suspended, don't create a new one" sat right there on the left, it's just asking for it....

Message 106501 - Posted: 10 Jul 2022, 18:48:11 UTC - in response to Message 106496.

I keep getting this though:

This project seems to have changed its URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add https://master.worldcommunitygrid.org/

When I tried that address, it didn't work at all, I got:

Not found in the database
Invalid ID
I've changed over 3 of 4 PCs successfully enough. The only difficulty was a work machine where our email address changed after originally joining 12yrs ago. but I worked it out in the end.
I guess I'll have to do my phone as well, now I think about it.
Tasks are in short supply and only for the useless OPN project that I've seen.
But I wasn't expecting tasks until the end of the month, so anything is a bonus right now
Are you saying you changed your PCs to master instead of www? That does not work for me, I just tried it again, I'm not found in the database.

I got one OPN yesterday, and 7 OPNs today, that's with 10 devices attached to it, which will check every so often when they're low on work from other projects, since WCG will have a debt on them.

I've read in the WCG forum there's some technical problems. Others have reported an error of a lack of disk space on the server when returning results (odd).

First I remove WCG, then re-add the project, replacing the URL offered with the "master" one and it seems to work the first time on each machine.
Yes, I've seen from their forums that changing the URL wasn't necessary. It's my laptop I still haven't switched over yet and it just received tasks anyway.

And I spoke a day too soon. Mapping Cancer Markers tasks have now become available on WCG. Hopefully that'll keep my idle machines busy now
And I finally got around to setting up my 2nd PC for VBox - running better than my main machine tbf, but it's only a non-HT quad core rather than 8C/16T. It all helps

Message 106502 - Posted: 10 Jul 2022, 18:56:01 UTC - in response to Message 106495.

I still get this from one that managed to attach:
471	World Community Grid	28-06-2022 10:55 AM	update requested by user
472	World Community Grid	28-06-2022 10:55 AM	Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
473	World Community Grid	28-06-2022 10:55 AM	Requesting new tasks for CPU and AMD/ATI GPU
474	World Community Grid	28-06-2022 10:55 AM	Scheduler request failed: HTTP service unavailable

I wonder why mine looks so different.

Sun 10 Jul 2022 02:37:31 AM EDT | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
Sun 10 Jul 2022 02:37:31 AM EDT | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for CPU
Sun 10 Jul 2022 02:37:32 AM EDT | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
Sun 10 Jul 2022 02:37:32 AM EDT | World Community Grid | This project is using an old URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add https://master.worldcommunitygrid.org/
Sun 10 Jul 2022 02:37:32 AM EDT | World Community Grid | Project has no tasks available
Sun 10 Jul 2022 02:37:32 AM EDT | World Community Grid | Project requested delay of 121 seconds

The first one is from a week or two back. The one you're getting now is the current error message.
If you remove, then re-add the project with the new URL, the error message doesn't go away.
And apparently it's not necessary to use the new URL.
Try to manually update again right now. New tasks became available to me about an hour before the message I'm typing now

I tried several times on several machines to use the master URL and it never worked. ID not found in database or something. It doesn't seem to be any use anyway, the proper URL works ok. I engaged a 5 minute tickle on 7 PCs, and got loads of cancer tasks. It seems to be churning things out regularly now, so I've turned it off to decrease server load. No sign of GPU work though :-( I thought there was going to be a huge backlog of OPN (GPU) work to do?

None of my machines are ever idle, there's plenty of projects I'm interested in. Mainly astrophysics and biology.

I only have two machines that will do Rosetta VB tasks, since the other CPUs are too old and lack AVX. And one of those machines is the main one. And VB on a machine you're trying to interact with is ridiculous. It's like using a 286.

Sorry, I got 250 cancers. That's only 2.5 per core.

Anyone got any CPUs/MBs/RAM they want rid of? I'm out of connections for GPUs.

Weird error, but it doesn't matter, as you say.

Someone above said they're just issuing CPU tasks at first, which makes sense if they're being very careful

I don't get sluggishness with VB tasks.
Well, I did a little when I pushed things to the limit and tried to get 11 tasks running at once, but once I limited RAM to only allow 10, things improved a lot.

My system gets very sluggish when i run lhc or quchempedia virtualbox tasks on it. The strange thing is that when i run equivalent workload on vmware it doesn't lag.

I have tried it on an i5 8600K and a Ryzen 9 3900XT, both have a noticeably sluggish interface even with a 25% CPU load on VB and nothing else running. The Ryzen has 64GB RAM and the i5 has 48GB. Both have mid-range NVME drives for Windows 11 and Boinc. It does this with any VB project (Rosetta, LHC, Cosmology). What is it you're doing to stop this?

I'm not familiar with VMWare, is this a similar thing to Vbox? I take it it's not for Boinc and you were running something else?

Does that use virtualisation technology in the CPU like Vbox does?

So it's a software problem not a hardware one, that doesn't surprise me.

I take it Boinc can only interface with Virtualbox?

Maybe it is a problem with VirtualBox Hardening? I probably should try to compile virtualbox without hardening and check.

Yes, I saw a couple of Android WCG tasks today for the first time

I have an i3-8350K 4C Win10 16Gb RAM and a 5800X 8C/16T Win10 32Gb RAM - not a million miles off your two but much less RAM - and I'm doing nothing out of the ordinary.
iPlayer streaming in the background and some Excel work at most
