When I use the 'top' command, I can only see 3 CPUs being busy. In the BOINC manager only 3 instances of rosetta@home are used.

Any hints?

My BOINC comes from the Fedora repository. Its version is 7.0.29(x86)

My CPU:
model name : AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor

Operating system:
Linux 3.9.10-100.fc17.i686

Looks like you only have 3.5GB of memory. If you actually have more physical memory than that installed, you'll have to upgrade to a 64-bit OS. Rosetta units are pretty memory intensive generally speaking. Try running 'top' to see your memory usage. It might not be running the fourth instance due to lack of available memory.

On another computer I am running 2 tasks with a bit less than 2 GB so I assumed it should be enough for 4 tasks. I'll try increasing to 4GB and see if that does anything.

You might also confirm how you have your computing preferences set in the BOINC Manager. It has a setting for the percentage of available CPUs you want BOINC to use, there is also a setting for the percentage of CPU time (across all of the processors) you wish to use.

That was one of the first thing I did, the memory configuration helped :-)
