Thanks for taking the time for the great introduction! I recently joined and learned new things. I am not an expert on this subject but am very interested in making a positive difference for others.

By the way, I noticed another way this project used to communicate with users. This was done @rosettaathome on Twitter but not used since June 2011. I suggest you restart using this medium as well.

Thank you very much for the extremely informative post. Rosetta is about the only project where I will look at the Science board about as often as I do the number cruncher board.

I asked Prof. Baker a question a few years ago that he answered. The question might be relevant and have a different answer now, however. So let me suggest you ask him to see his current answer. The question is simple: How much has Rosetta improved over, say, the last 5 years? I am unsure how you would measure improvement, so I am willing to go by whatever metric Prof. Baker might choose to use, be in quantitative or qualitative in nature.

Thanks again for the posts. I hope they are the first in a long and continuing series!

This is a great idea. I love getting more info about what's happening with the science of Rosetta.

Good question! I'll add that to my list.

Also, I'll mention the twitter account.

Is the Baker Lab doing any work related to tinnitus (ringing in the ears), hyperacusis (hypersensitivity to sound) and/or hearing loss in general?

Genes and proteins have been linked to these conditions. For more information see this thread:
https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=6115

Thanks for answering!

Could we get an update on CASP 10 now the results have been published?

The meeting to discuss results of the experiment will be held at the Hotel Serapo in Gaeta (Italy) on December 9-12, 2012 (starting at 6pm on the 9th and ending in the afternoon of the 12th).

I hope next week....

"Rosetta Insight" seemed like such a great idea...151 days ago. Sigh...

I really wish there was a little more interaction between the scientists and the crunchers. Of course, it really does not matter to me. I shall keep Rosetta the highest priority on my computers and crunch away. But perhaps Rosetta might be able to attract more crunchers with more communication.

A bit more attention to the problems might help too! The whole idea of Boinc is to use unused cycles to help solve some of the World's problems, when those same cycles always come up with "Compute error" it is VERY frustrating and a MAJOR turn off!!

I agree, they really are losing alot of cruncher with their lack of communication.

I really believe in the project, but not fully knowing what the hell I'm crunching made me switch to Folding@Home.

We should have an over/under bet about how it takes before someone associated with Rosetta replies to this thread... :)

Just returned after a long absence, crunching mainly HCC on WCG. Adding additional computer resources and will contribute more soon.

Hello, this is Lucas, I'm a postdoc in the Baker lab and a new scientific user of Boinc for design of novel proteins. We are pushing for more communication on our end and part of that is more updates here on these boards, but also reviving our twitter feed @rosettaathome. That will include updates on papers published using boinc, and more small updates of progress, interesting results from a few days' worth of boinc results, etc.
