Hello,

I have a few quetsions that do not seem to be answered on the wesite:

1) Who will own the results of rosetta@home? Will it be public domain? Will a (private) research institute own it?

2) Will the rosetta@home results lead to the patenting of genes, proteines, etcetera?

3) What's the difference/relation of rosetta@home with folding@home and predictor@home? Aren't you just duplicating research here?

Thanks to anyone who can answer these quetions for me. Oh, and you might want to put these in a FAQ on the site. I don't think I'm the only one who likes to know!

Not an expert but at least remember such discussion there before
How Is Rosetta Different Than Folding@home? - https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=63. I'm sure you may find more on this topic throughout the forum.

Topic 1) and 2) were already mentioned...and at least partially answered.
As they are spread on the forum, perhaps it's better to search posts from Rosetta projects members (David Kim, David Barker, Jack Schonbrun etc.).
After that, your questions should be answered quite well.

1) Everything will be public domain
2) No, I do not believe in patenting naturally ocurring genes, proteins, etc.
3) Rosetta@home is very different from folding@home. rosetta@home aims to predict naturally
ocurring protein structures and design new and useful ones; folding@home is simulating the process of protein folding. predictor@home is also working on structure prediction, but with a very different method.

All the research will be kept secret, used to build chemical weapons, and tested on innocent children. The end game will be of course the building of an army of supermen in order for the university of Washington to take over the planet, and nuke the whole of France.

Joking aside, this is probably the best medical DC project to be involved in today, with a very transparent and active team - as Mr Baker's answers on this thread demonstrate clearly. Stay assured your CPU cycles will be put to good use!

My first impression is to agree with this. I also agree with an earlier posting that suggested putting these and similar answers into a FAQ, and I'd suggest linking it from the home page too.

What you don't want is for people to turn away from this project fearing that they will be working to make patent holders rich when providing this kind of info would encourage them to stay. Well it would me anyhow.
