Over the last 5 years have have bought computers for nothing else than to crunch data here. I believe it is a good cause.

For the last couple years I don't feel the staff is getting very involved here.

For example the newest item present when you look into Top predictions in the Statistics section is FOUR years old.
Now that Rosetta has a following of crunchers they can just set back.
I may be wrong and am now and then but this is my personal option of how I see it.

There is nothing more to add, sadly...
I have been a Rosetta participant for more than a year now. I know that being a part of this project is really something. But please, is it so difficult to post a brief info about what is going on here? I will quote some of my previous posts:

"I agree with Mike, that it would be nice if we were kept up to date with what's currently going on here.
Our computers are crunching new workunits all the time, but we have no idea what exactly they are.
A key to success is being well informed, and that's what we ask you for. Just give us some more detailed info about current activity of Rosetta every now and then."

"It is normal that sometimes things go wrong. But it would be nice to hear a word from project administrators, that we have a problem (why and when it is predicted to be fixed). We, users, like to know that we are treated seriously".

And no reply to this...

I know that Project Administrators are busy guys, but please, Rosetta is a part of their work, isn't it? We do not want miracles... Sometimes one sentence would be enough to have everyone satisfied. Our computers crunch workunits, that is correct. But I feel as if this project was dead - due to the lack of communication with us - volunteers.

Having the above in mind, Dear Project Administrators - please start treating us seriously. You must remember that there are plenty of other projects, not only Rosetta.

no guarantee that when the school year starts they will say much more.
only the grad students post here and if they have time or interest.
communication seems to be the lowest priority here.
i have been with the project for a number of years and the past few years the communication level has dropped to 0. it is hard enough just to get information from them about when the system might be running properly again. no one has written anything about what the work unit names mean in over a year.

we have been writing about this in a number of different threads and no one responds. so get used to the deafening silence. that is the norm here.

i am thinking of changing my resource share of rosie to a lower level now.
i have been debating about quitting the project all together. not that they would notice with all the thousands of users.

I've always said, that if rosetta had a website similar to that of WCG... many people would join, just because the website looks professional.

of course your right no guarantees ...but as long as things are stable now and work units are being done I'm staying with the project ..do we even know if anyone on the staff took ill or some other reason for the quietness? we could always give them a ring or fax http://depts.washington.edu/bakerpg/newindex.html http://depts.washington.edu/bakerpg/drupal/node/92 I do agree an updated web site would help

Rochester - don't think the phone call would do much good. It would likely go something like:

"Hello, this Rosetta. My name Peggy. What is problem?"

(for those of you not living in the US and scratching your heads - go to YouTube and search "My Name Peggy" - so representative of customer service now days.)

Greg - you want to share your thoughts about WCG? You know something the rest of us don't?

That was an honest question. I've looked at the projects they represent and many of them seem to be worthy.

I don't think that I would crunch for the Clean Water project because I suspect that there is a real direct transfer between the Chinese University and Chinese Industry.

(they are looking at water filtering schemes)

In my gut I believe that any society that can throw up the computing resources necessary to create the Great Firewall and invest in several front-line super computers can do their own R&D

But that's just me and you can select and deselect projects at will.

well I am not the one who mentioned WCG.
I don't know much about it.
I don't recall where I found POEM or Einstein, but I run those now as well as Milkyway.

I run Einstein since I am interested in astrophysics amaturely.
But also since one of the detectors is back near my parents place where I grew up I decided to run that as well.

So Rosie was my first program then grabbed Einstein and then picked up Milkyway and Poem to fill in and diversify.

I divert a few resources to WCG and it does look professional but I'll also say I don't understand a single thing about it. I can't even equate my point scores with anything I see on boincstats. I simply don't use it at all.

Very professional looking though...

That's the only (slight) grief about the web site and stats at WCG. They internally use a different point score scheme than point. And that's explained quite clearly on the web site/FAQ...

All credits shown on the "My Statistics" page are exactly 7x what the BOINC "credit score" is. However, on the "Result Status" page, it will the show exactly the requested and granted BOINC credits as they will sum up...

What else is not to understand?

I understand why some volunteers are unhappy. However, I donot see any perfect project management around in all dc projects. I see some ups and down with Rosetta@Home over the past 6 years I donated my computers runtime. I never fault them for that. Have patience and relax and enjoy the fact that you are giving somthing for the common good of mankind. I just like the project and I think you all do too deep inside you without preconditions. joseps:)
I turned off my 5computers when I went on vacation. When I return today, I can not upload work. Need work units to run computers.

Is it? Where's that? I went to the Forum. Everything was so bland & there was so much of it I didn't know where to start. So I didn't.

Why do they multiply everything by 7?. Why don't they just divide everything by 7 again?

What else is not to understand?

I don't know what question there is to ask. I just grab the occasional WU, crunch it & send it back. Hopefully it does what the title of the sub-project says it does. I really wouldn't know.

So much of what?
When you click on "Points Generated" on the "My Statistics" page, it explains the point score scheme.
Did you bother to check in their forum and read the FAQ or the BOINC Agent thread/sections in the support sections...

See above...

And it seems you don't seem to be bothered to check the forums @WCG, I doubt that would leave any questions open...

I'll try again. I didn't understand any of the forum headings. I looked in a few but couldn't glean any pattern to what they were about. There were so many forums and posts I got tired of looking for anything that might make sense, so I gave up.

I'm not sure if it's my fault for not getting anything about the place or your fault for not getting that I don't get it. Either way, I have no motivation to go back, only to get lost again.

This isn't working, is it. I'll stay as I am. Thanks for trying but nothing helped.

Yes that is a problem with WCG, it is so big it can be hard to find something! WCG is probably a victim of their own design, it is run by IBM, or overseen or something by IBM, and therefore has alot of users thinking they are helping IBM. I don't know if that is true or not but they do have some very interesting projects that I too contribute too. As for the credits being different most Boinc projects are different from each other in how they decide how many credits to give for any work done. Unfortunately, to me, that is one thing Dr. A is working on, a credit system built deeply into the Server side making it difficult to change so all projects do it the same way. This decision has been discussed at length elsewhere but so far he is still on his path of 'oneness'.

On Ralph@home we give cpu time and personal time (to post problems/bug) and no one give us info.
For example there is a thread about gpu use here, ideas (subproject, little code wu, etc) and no one said: ok, good idea or no, it's impossible....
