Look Here

OK, but the Rosetta application does not crash. So unless backups are made all the time, the error will still occur.

And is this something that can be fixed by different coding in the application? I just find it wierd that it only happens on one of my machines...

@All
If somebody has a better idea, i'm sure that C. Barrett will be happy to hear you.
He has also 512 mb of ram.
And if he dooesn't try, he will not know if my idea is the or a solution.

Ill be honest, this is the first time i had a stop on a switch in my 2 years of crunching so i had "assumed" that the programs were retained in memory on a switch. After reading your suggestion, i checked and lo and behold, it wasnt set up that way. hmmm.

I will switch it and see what happens. thanks!

A friend got the same error like you (but no problems with the other Boinc projects).
He has also "only" 256 mb of ram and all the wus ran errored.
He tried "Leave applications in memory while preempted? yes" and now, all is ok.

So when i saw your error message, i had the same idea.

Well, i tried this and it worked, BUT, my ram utilization pegged and i barely had anything left over to navigate the web among other things. 498mb used out of 508 avail. I shut it back off (retain in memory) and i can operate my PC again.

Since this problem is only with Rosetta, ill just have to do Rosetta in straight runs as opposed to switching to other projects.

thanks for assist

I hope you don't mind me asking but what all do you run on your computer? I currently have 4 applications swapping around in BOINC, all retained in 512 RAM, I'm on the net with 4 MSIE browser instances opened, A/V and firewall program, 2 notepad text files and MS Word and have absolutely no problem with the computer bogging down.

I just find it odd that you have a much faster processor than I do yet are having problems with slowdowns. We both have WinXP, the same amount of RAM and the only major difference I can see is that you have a faster Pentium and I have a slower AMD. Must be a Pentium thing...

My results have 5 client error/computing, and 2 client error/done. I get the same error code as Mr. Barrett - just sent in 2 bad wu's. I checked prefs and set Leave in memory to yes (was no). I have CPU with 1GB RAM, plenty of drive space and I'm running with seti and cpdn suspended, doing only rosetta today - 2 wu's at a time, one per thread. Any ideas why I'm getting those errors? I looked at the wiki referenced below, and I suspect I don't have prefs set properly rather than unstable hardware.

/edit...

Also, using 4.77 science app and 4.45 boinc.

Thanks,

Well, I have done about 14 wu's (uploads, anyway - are there 2 files per wu?)since last error with no more errors (I shouldn'a said that...). 2 changes I noticed - I changed leave in memory to yes, and the wu's possibly changed, from 1pvaA_ to 1btn_. Not certain just what the name change indicates, but I noticed it anywho.

My mem utilization stays around 775 - 800MB, peaked at 935MB (out of 2.52GB). I'll just keep an eye on it.

Hello All,

Just added a stick and a new Asus M.B after frying it,just for Rosetta.Cost $400
and it was not my mistake.Tryed Rosetta again with 756 Ram and error after error.
12 Hours of Crunching and $400 Dollars.Once Rosetta "Respects" and Tweeks the
W/U "Better" for Linoxos will have to wait. Please let us know when and what I can do.To be honest I donnot understand what the "Fix" is for These Computation errors.

Just about every time I see your name in a project you are having client errors, I suggest that you get rid of that celeron and get a new CPU, and run memtest to test the system, cause you must have computer problem, when it will not process cleanly on any project....

Not any more dude.Tweeked Linux O.S.I guess if you were unable to "get around"
and are "taken" by people that take advantage of the Disabled.Maybe before you
make accusations that I post all over the place with errors, well dude,is not
that what these "Posts" are for?.I would put yourself in other peoples shoes
before "Quoting me"and anyone else in a community that gives "all" my Power
to Boinc.I donnot play games I crunch numbers and thats all.so,of course
I will have difficulties. But,Thanks for the advice regarding memtest. And the only client errors have been with Rosetta, but,as I said all is well now.I learn
from these Posts and I "Respect" your memtest {memory" and all is well}swap
the kernal, you name it Linuxos is a large learning curve for a P.C.. user for
only 8 Months.Ran Winxp for 4 Months and learned what "userability is"But,enjoy
looking under the hood with the Linux O.S.
Sincerely
sluger

@ Doug Worrall
I can't help you really because i'm running a Amd cpu under Windows.
But i see that sometimes you succeed the wus.
I know that "life" here seems less easy for an Linux user but you may to try to run Memtest.
A problem of hardware would be a little stupid and can be (perhaps) easily resolved.
Try ;)

Thanks Nightbird,a fellow Boinc Synergist,Just put Memtest on "opera" Toolbar.
Have about 4 other Memory tests in KDE,none of them saw any hardware Probs.
P.C. is still learning new M.B. and Ram at 756.Rosetta is clicking wonderfully
when just it is going, while all others are paused.Going to Run Rosetta all day
untill Wendsday Morn.I like it ,and if it can save 1 life,I love it!Replaces
Predictor "Sort of" not alike, but, folding is folding.
Happy Crunching Boicateers
