In the Boinc Manager Messages I keep getting "Suspending Computation - CPU usage is too high" then 10 seconds later I get "Resuming computation". I don’t see any system errors and am running ASUS PC Probe to keep an eye on temps and all seems OK. I changed the CPU usage to 90% in the Boinc Preferences and can see the CPU cycle spike down from 100% to around 20% every few seconds in the Windows Task Manager but still get suspending messages.

The newer versions of BOINC have the ability to suspend things when the level of activity on your machine picks up. This is an effort to minimize the chances of the running BOINC tasks from impeding your use of your machine.

I believe the default is 25% of CPU time. When the level of non-BOINC CPU time reaches 25%, then BOINC shuts down until your machine is less busy. You can adjust this cut-out threshold though. Look in the processor usage tab of the preferences for control of this.

The other question is... what else is using CPU time on your machine? Perhaps you have a task that is stuck in a loop or has a bug where it is consuming CPU time that it really shouldn't be using.

I am having the same problem on my Windows box.
Here are more instructions:
* Run BOINC Manager application
* Choose Menu: Advanced / Preferences...
* Set "While processor usage is less than" to a different value

50% seems to be a good balance. I started editing a Word document and it shut down.

Be careful with tools like PC Probe to chek for temperatures. Some of them use (shortly) very much the system for whatever reason (i assume its a non optimized code) and therefore force Boinc to stop.

Chucks idea seems to be a solution
