This is sort of a follow-up to a couple of posts made in the "Large Amont Of Failed WUs" thread by "Speedy" and "Jochen" to which I never really saw an adequate answer - or at least if there was one, I missed it. I broke this out into its own thread so it does not "get lost in the crowd" which seems to happen from time to time when unrelated problems are reported in the same thread.

Would it be possible to get confirmation from one of the Admins that there is in fact a problem with the Combined Torsion family of tasks? Actually, since these all seem to run for 10 seconds or less they are not wasting many CPU cycles, but they must be doing wonders for the Project's bandwidth utilization.

Here is a sampling of Combined Torsion tasks which have failed on my systems over the past day or so, all with the "Unable To Open Weights" message.

These failures occur on both my AMD / Linux and my OS X / Intel platforms.

Thanks

What Chris said...

Regarding failed WUs, I installed BOINC on my girlfriends laptop... turns out it gave plenty of errors. ALL failed WUs failed a few seconds after starting: https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/results.php?hostid=1320906&offset=20

Intel Core 2 Duo T4300 @ 2.10GHz with manufacturing technology @ 45. Heat is NOT a problem.

Come on now - you trying to impress us? Did you mean "girlfriends" or "girlfriend's" - a subtle difference in spelling but a BIG difference in your reputation!

They look like the same failures I am seeing on my system.

That's not the problem. The problem is ONE Laptop shared between MULTIPLE girlfriends. This will sooner or later lead to MULTIPLE ex-girlfriends - at least. ;)

And that is only if he is LUCKY!! Each girlfriend needs their own laptop at the minimum! 8-))

Have the units fixed themselves yet or are you still having problems? It sounds like a work unit problem to me, meaning it is a Project problem not something we users can fix.

Guys, I only install BOINC on only ONE girl's laptop. Haha

And regarding the thread, I found a few computation errors on some other PCs as well, which are stable. So I guess it's more of a WU problem than hardware. Good thing they fail a few seconds after starting.

Come on Mikey - take it easy on the guy, can't you see his face is turning red? And white. And Blue.

Chile guy - we only pick on the ones we feel are part of the family ...

See now if it were more than one girlfriend, you could even more credits coming your way from all those other laptops crunching too! You just have to remember to call the right girlfriend by the right name, from experience calling the right girl the wrong name is not a good thing! 8-)))

I am glad it was a project problem and hopefully they will fix it very soon!

When that happens you tend to lose half the house too. Then, multiple gf's WOULD have multiple computers...

Mikey -

If I were you I would tread lightly on Mr. Chilean - he's young, he's buff, and he is a body builder. You on the other hand resemble the Pillsbury Dough Boy. That contest would be more rigged than a WWF match.

Short but exciting.

On a different topic Biscuit Boy, if we buttered you up and promised to talk nice about you sometime in the future would you consider becoming an active member of the project again?

Ahhh but see Chilean is in Chile and I am not, so it would have to be a pretty big ring and I can just stand and wait for him to cross it and by then he will be so exhausted he would be a pushover! We big guys may be slow but we are strong as all get out, you let us get a hold of some young whipper snapper and they may not know, or care, what day it is anymore.

As for me coming back, not right now, as I said before it just did not work on any Windows machines and my only Linux one right one is a multi-year old laptop with a maxed out 512 MEG of ram in it! As you can see by my stats, which I am letting post this time, I am working on getting PrimeGrid above my Seti stats. All my cpu's except one are doing PG right now full time to get there. Then I will work on something else and yes it could be Rosie, but I won't know until I get there.
ps even thought it says I have RAC at both Freehal and Virtual Prarie, I have not had a pc attached there in a while now, and the Malaria RAC is dropping daily down to around 250 for a single core of my laptop. My wife complained her games slowed too much if I used both cores for crunching, so only one core crunches while the other sits idle for other stuff.

He's right, it takes an 8 hour flight to get from Santiago to Atlanta, GA. It isn't pleasing on your lower extremities with them seats that won't lean back more than 5 degrees.
