On one of my computers I found in my "projects"-folder a folder called boinc.bakerlab.org_rosettasymbols. It contains the following folders:

In each of those is one more folder with a name looking like a hash and in that folder there is a pdb file. For the first one it is for example

boinc.bakerlab.org_rosettasymbolsadvapi32.pdbF759D3F1C6614313B07C84BC33F02E4D2advapi32.pdb

Should all that be there? I could not find any references to those files in the client_state.xml, like for the files in the "normal" boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta folder.

Those are debugging symbols that that programs use for diagnosis of crashes and problems. I'm not sure why Rosetta is sending that data to the clients. On Ralph, I might see the advantage, but unless a moderator says otherwise, you can delete that entire folder. Just make sure BOINC is NOT running if you delete it.

OK... than let's see what a moderator will say. I'm not in hurry to delete them, this folder is just 226MB and I have 18GB free on that drive and if nothing unexpected will happen, I will probably not need more than that in the next couple of months... or even years.

Link, I'm not certain on those specific files. In general, I let BOINC manage the disk space. The project will send a message to your machine to delete old application versions when appropriate.

If it causes you any sort of problems, the most complete way to clean up any trash would be to set the project for no new work, complete and report back everything, and then reset the project. That may save you a little space, but will probably later grow to about where you are now, so I'm not suggesting this as any sort of fix. Just offering an idea if the space is a short-term problem for your machine.

Well, I'm actually not sure, if BOINC knows about all those files. In the disc usage tab it shows that SETI is using 8.33MB, which is _exactly_ what is used by that, for rosetta it shows me 119.67MB while the boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta folder is 58.67MB and the boinc.bakerlab.org_rosettasymbols folder is 226.85MB. So it shows not one of them, not the sum of them, but something between. And that was what actually made me curious, not just the existence of that folder (forgot to write that). Anyway, as disc space is not a problem on this machine, I will let it be for now as it is.
