I ran a web translator and came up with this translation:

My Boinc manager claimed for any job permanently "Held-user is active", although I do not touch the computer. Nothing helps against: Run "by default" is selected, the time is at 3 minutes and the hook on "When the computer is used "is deleted. 6.6.38 Boinc / Rosetta Mini 1.98 simply does not seem to notice when the user does nothing more. When I click "Run Always", or toggle the check mark "if the computer is used" set, which runs the task processing. But I want that the unit only triggers duties if I do not mind working. What can be the cause?

So, I think he is saying that tasks only seem to run when the machine is set to "run always" and they want to only run when the machine is idle. But that setting doesn't seem to be working properly.

There is a delay on starting work. The machine has to be idle for a period of time which you can configure. Another possibility is the memory settings are not allowing enough memory for the task to run. There are two settings for memory, one for when the machine is in use, and the other is for when the machine is idle. If you had set your memory when idle to a low percentage, then there may not be enough to run the task. Since the task runs when you say "run always", you will want to be sure your memory percentage when idle is at least as high as the percentage when in use.

Sorry for using english. I assumed I could get support in german here.

Yes, your translation is correct. Thanks for your efforts!

I am aware of the delay and I configured it to 3 minutes but that doesn't change anything. Even waiting an hour doesn't start the tasks. I also set the memory settings as you told (both to 90% now) that also doesn't change the behaviour.

Do you have some more ideas?

Maybe there is some kind of log I could look into?

Could there be any programm running on by PC that make the POINC/Rosetta software believe the user is active? How does ist recognize user activity at all?

Posting in German is certainly OK. I was hoping someone that speaks German would come and add to my initial response. But thank you for posting in English.

Yes, it is possible that BOINC thinks another application is active. I am not aware of exactly how it makes that determination. Which BOINC version are you running? I seem to recall there were some BOINC fixes regarding detection of idle machine within the past year or so. But I thought there were on Linux.

I should point out that most people find they are able to run BOINC all of the time without interfering with the usage of their computer. This is because it runs at the lowest possible priority. Sometimes memory usage can still become a point of contention and that is why there are additional settings to allow you to control BOINC's memory usage. You might set BOINC to run 80% of the time, or use at most 75% of the CPUs (I see your machine has 4). And that will further help minimize any interference with your usage of your computer.

Perhaps if I understood why you are trying to only run when idle, we could come up with other alternatives. What other types of applications does your machine run?

I am running "Rosetta Mini 1.98" on Windows XP. I just installed the latest version and I am totally new to BOINC and Rosetta.

There are no special applications running. I just tried to totally prevent BOINC from running and influencing my work when I am using the PC while it may use ANY possible ressources when the PC is left alone.

So if I configure the memory and CPU limits, these limits also apply when the PC is unused. But thats not what I want. When I am away from the computer, BOINC may be as greedy as it can.

There are traces you can run to get additional logging information. But I'd rather avoid that for someone new to BOINC if possible.

If you open the tasks list and sort by CPU %, and then stop moving your mouse and stop using the keyboard, after the 3 minutes, you should see Rosetta tasks come to the top (because there shouldn't be anything else left to do). The question is, are there any non-Rosetta tasks using CPU time?

Perhaps the BOINC help desk could assist you (probably in German) with the question of how BOINC detects when your machine is idle.

No there is no other task consuming time in idle :-/
