1. Boinc runs well when I am using my computer (set at 50% memory allocated. Strangely, even though set to use 75% Memory when not is use, after it not being used a minute or so, I return to always see "Boinc is currently suspended" in a screensaver-like image.

You are welcome to check my settings and make recommendations if you have access to them.

2. Occassionally, it starts running Boinc on all 4 Quad channels and makes computer unusable - cannot stop it or access any programs so must use windows "manager" to logout and restart. Adjustments in ram settings helped, but it still happens while I am working with computer

Any ideas or pointers appreciated.

Further: Initially it ran 4 Boinc components at a time. After adjusting, it is now back to 3 at a time, indicating it may be relative to CPU channels available?

Can one set it to run just one component at a time without having to cut back on the 50 & 75 % allocations set above?

Or allocate it to use just one channel?

EDIT: Computer has hung up 2x this morn already, so I will have to turn boinc off until I find how to run it while still keeping computer use within bounds. Hang up does not occur immediately, takes an hour or two of running

Apology: Meant to edit, not start new post

There are too many BOINC settings to be clear here. If BOINC running while you are trying to use your computer is causing you problems, then I should think that a status of "currently suspended" would be a good thing. Let it run when the machine is idle and suspend it when the machine is in use. But you are seeing this when the machine is idle? This should only happen during the CPU benchmarks. Do the messages show BOINC was running the benchmarks at that time?

You can set BOINC to run a certain times of day. You can set it to only use a specific number of the 4 CPUs. You can set it to use only a certain percentage of CPU time. You can ask it to control how much memory you allow BOINC to use both when your computer is in use and when it has been idle for a period of time. And if the BOINC tasks are using more memory then you allow, it will begin to idle CPUs while waiting for the other tasks to reduce their memory usage, or complete. Or, for the machine to go idle, at which time perhaps you allow BOINC to use more memory.

I am not clear on your objectives, and have no access to see your settings. So, all I know is that you've got a 4CPU machine with 3GB of memory... and what you've said here.
