A problem occured with the latest batch of gfx WUs on my computer: This is a dual core Athlon X2. With regular WUs, they both have their equal share of 50%.

With the new gfx WU, the gfx WU takes 75% of the resources when I turn on the visuals. In addition to that, my whole system becomes sluggish. I only get about 1 new frame every 3 seconds! Closing the gfx windows also takes 3 seconds. Without visuals, 50/50 is restored and the system responds again.

This machine has 1GB of RAM, an X2 3800+, a nVidia 6600GT and all drivers are up to date.

I haven't had any gfx WU on this computer yet but my Athlon XP 2000+ with a Rage128 gfx card showed the graphics just fine.

Any idea about that?

I don't have any ideas, but if you could provide more info it might help the admins, like:

- what version of the boinc client are you using?
- WU name
- was there anything "weird" in the boinc client trace files?

That kind of stuff....

Now this is really embarrassing for me:

I was playing Civilization I (yes, the very old one) before I came to the gfx WU. It looks like Civ didn't terminate properly.

I restarted my machine and the gfx just ran fine! (Looks great btw)

Then I played 5 minutes of Civ again, clsoed it.

Again, the gfx were broke.

So I guess I'll just have to abstain from playing Civ I if I want to take a look at the gfx of Rosetta.

Hey!

Sid and Andy can pull my leg, they're from TeAm Anandtech!

But not you, marshall2k!

Only if you give me a free copy of solitaire!

Wait, shouldn't you guys be sending me the games, so I can "test" their behavior? :-)

On a more serious note:

Does this only happen with Rosetta, or do other boinc screen saver graphics do the same thing?

I think the issue turned out to be unrelated to Rosetta. (the game didn't shut down properly) So we're good!

PS: We should all get games..... Think the Salvation Army would be sympathetic?

I think Jack is asking because if the game doesn't shutdown properly and the screensaver for another project runs fine, then there might be a condition that Rosetta's screensaver doesn't like and could be fixed.

Sorry Jack, I devote all my CPUs to Rosetta only, so I don't know if the same applies to other projects' sreensavers as well.

On the other hand, I'm not sorry at all to have all my power on R@H :-)
