No pengy, it was the total usage of last year, I'll send you a pm about this.
So your quad was not the issue, it was the dual core and all the other electronics in the house.

If you are going to shut down for 8hrs per day (which you can just scheduled in the BOINC Manager the hours of day to run), it would be best (one opinion on "best") to make them the 4 hours on each side of high noon. That way you are using less power when everyone else wants to use more. Actually everyone getting home for work and cooking an evening meal is another peak, so from noon to 8PM would probably be the best 8 hour period to go idle.

Your usage for A/C trying to keep up with the heat produced by your machines will further reduce your demand for power during the peak period.

Thanks Mod, but usage is usage here, time is not the issue.
So I am shutting down when I am at work and then restart and run through the night. So it is about 16hrs a day that I am running. This is until I can figure out how much power is being used by what device around the house. I think part of the problem was a dying refrigerator running almost all the time. But the s/o thinks it my system. We have replaced the refrigerator, now just have to wait and show her what is what.

It doesn't get hot in Belgium? Or is the electricity soooo expensive that no one uses it? Even the bars and restaurants are hot?!

Well it helps to not live in the city (Antwerp) where there is little open space. I live in a small town with plenty of open space and trees all around, so it keep pretty cool downstairs. If it gets to hot then we just turn on the portable fan. But being the front half of the house is under the bedrooms and only get a few hrs of direct morning sun, it keeps cool. The back end where the kitchen is gets all the afternoon and early evening sun and can get a bit warm, but then I just use the window shades to cool it down and leave the big ceiling window open at night to let in cool air. The neighbors do the same more or less.

From what I can find on one website it gets to a record high of 93F or about 33C. Saturday is supposed to be about 77f or 25C with quite a bit of humidity. Sunday before the rain comes in it should be about 80F or 27C which is the highest temp so far this year. Humidity is high at the moment at 41% which makes it feel much warmer than normal.

Good news. It almost makes it worth boosting your RAM a little and getting a few more tasks going through! ;)
