Message 66970 - Posted: 22 Jul 2010, 11:38:49 UTC - in response to Message 66969.

"somebody" in upstate ny was up very early (est, or is it edt now?) to wish Apollo 11 a happy "a"...

might as well join in the fun...

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY APOLLO 11 !!!

EDT now days until sept/oct

The (b)Eagle has landed[/b] and the humans looked liked 'roos when trying to walk.
It was a fine day for mankind.

They did look funny bouncing around didn't they!

At 27% gravity you could do gymnastics in a spacesuit.
Wonder how far you could hit a baseball.

I don't know but didn't they hit a golf ball and it went a long way even though they had very poor form due to the spacesuits.

Did they say "Fore" ?
From what I found out, he didn't bother.
Used a 6 Iron head with some sort of adaptor.

Seems that Edgar Mitchell tossed a javelin as well.

Did you guys watch the Discovery Channel show about the 'tank on the moon'? Seems the Russians put not one but TWO Lunar rovers up there and drove them around, like we do the Mars Rovers, for around a year each! They sent up one, it died, the tried to send up a second but it exploded, so they built a third and it cruised around doing tests etc. They did this during the same time period the US was walking around on the moon!

Ahh it figures it was the Science Channel not the Discovery Channel!
http://science.discovery.com/tv/tank/tank.html

A Really cool show, I even taped it and watched it several times, the last time with my oldest son who wanted go up in the shuttle but has bad eyes so can't. My son is a REAL geek in Science and could still go as a 'Mission Specialist' but right now is focusing on his PHD. Any Nasa plans of his are on long term hold for the foreseeable future.

Less than perfect eyesight sux. Would have luv'd to be army chopper pilot, but no 20/20 made the navy a better option. Hope it all works out in the end for your son...

Better of getting sea legs than flying around in a metal box that can be shot up.
Of course if I remember correctly, you were in a deep sea cigar tube.
Did they "Let the journey begin"?
Better than "Be all you can be" I think.....

Being a plank-owner on the USS Gettysburg was much better than being cannon-fodder...

nah, wasn't a bubblehead, just a regular squid. but let me tell you something. a brand new $1B cruiser, and we played some war games with a u.s. sub. fur-get-about-it! they kicked our ass every time. i pity ANYONE who has to go up against a u.s. sub. it's game over for them!

back in dc after a/c on the bus broke down, and had to wait 2 hours in a rest-stop for a replacement bus. should be able to visit the vault of credits to make a deposit 2morrow.

bublehead boys are the most dangerous breed out there.
think clancy got it right with red october.
they can hear you coming from what seems thousands of miles away.
think the most top secret classified gear goes into those boys.
back in the seattle area, you got the missle jockeys close to the coast at bangor. those are some expensive play toys.

as for your plank status, thats pretty unique.
did they give you wood or paper?

as for the credits, whenever you get the time is fine.
no real rush.

be sure to stock up on some extra krill while your waiting for the mermaid to help you.

Oh he is okay, he just looks out of one eye at a time but has 20/20 vision out of each, they call it something or other but it stems from him being born cross-eyed. He has had 5 eye surgeries, 3 before the age of 2, to straighten them out and now you would never know he was ever cross-eyed. Apparently around age 2 you lose any future abilities to have depth perception if your eyes aren't fixed by then, so they tried really hard, but no luck, he is like his mom, no depth perception to speak of!

And when I was in the Navy we too played war games with the subs, I was a surface sailor too, I am mostly color blind, and we NEVER won a mock battle with them! Several times we had to get them to surface so we could find them!! I was on a supply ship, a floating dry dock and a destroyer. Never a plank owner though! 8-((
While I was on the dry dock though I got to paint nuclear subs, does that count?

Actually we used 'water blasters' basically pressure washers to get the old paint off and then it was up to 7 coats of different colors and specs of paint to paint a sub! Do you even realize how B-I-G a boomer nuke sub is? I was in Holy Loch Scotland, they used to call it 'Site One' during the Cold War because it was the first US base where you would see any Soviet Missiles headed to the US. And during 'docking season' a sub would come in for 10 days for repairs and painting. As soon as the sub was out of the water we got started and went non stop 24 hours a day until the sub left. I was a Hull Tech then, a job combined from Shipfitters and Damage Control Men, and now separated again. EVERY group assigned to the Floating Dry Dock got people assigned to the sub when it was in, I was unlucky enough to do that for 4 or 5 different subs! 12 hours, 12 hours off, 12 on, 12 off for 10 days, then you take about a week off and the next sub comes in and you start all over again! Some subs had some external damage, some had none, some needed new screws, some didn't but ALL got water blasted and painted. Not all paint got taken down to the bare metal, but some did and then it was 7 coats, HAND ROLLED with rollers, before it was done. The rollers were the kind we use in our homes today, nothing special, just HUGE areas and lots of coats! Oh and different colors, even above and below the water line were different colors, this was so if you are looking down from above it would sort of disappear and the same thing when looking up from below.

Times like those, if you had to be a HT, woulda been good to be a HTC or HTCS, lol ! Certainly, a zero !

Was also on a FF, in addition to the CG, and definitely did my share of paint chipping. Only wish we had "water blasters" !

Yeah, them "boomers" are big !
