either you all are suntanning or stuck in a infinite loop in a black hole after being captured by the borg.

Naw just roasting from the multiple 90+F days out there! It has been in the upper 90's for alot of the last 10 days here and it is just too hot to think! My basement is up to 84F and it is air conditioned!! I have a whole house a/c and the pc's are just putting out too much heat right now.

should find a way to vent them to the outside via something like a dryer vent to the outside. got any of those high volume open grill fans? the ones that are smaller and similar to the ones they use to inflate hot air balloons?
my housemate had one of those when i lived in Bellevue for a time. It really moved the air. put one of those in the cooler part of your basement and blow back into your computer area.

or call penguin and ask him for some ice and if that doesn't work call the dry ice company. lol

Ha, ha I actually used to work for a dry ice company delivering it all over Northern Virginia and DC. I have 2 fans circulating air down there now but it doesn't help much, I also have one a/c vent almost wide open trying to provide some cool air to the air but it doesn't counteract the hot air outside and the pc's pumping out the hot air inside too.

It is cooler today and the rest of the week with the temps only in the 80's during the day and into the mid 50's at night, but come the weekend it is supposed to be hot again, back into the 90's!

I'll be brief...since I've loaded the the version 6.10.56 i've noticed my "anniversary" edition of ad-aware has been starting itself up automatically. Is there a correlation?

Mikey, guess you will have to hook up another fan and a flexihose to your dryer vent and blow out the hot air through that.

Sparks, that sounds a bit weird. I use adaware, but a different version, never had it autostart unless it was selected to be that way.

I'll be brief...since I've loaded the the version 6.10.56 i've noticed my "anniversary" edition of ad-aware has been starting itself up automatically. Is there a correlation?

Probably not, Ad-Aware is setup by default to do its thing periodically, even the free version. Check the settings and see if your is too. Personally I have moved on to http://www.malwarebytes.org/ because it is less invasive when not running, but if you like Ad-Aware and it works for you that is very important.

And Greg I have looked at ways to get the hot air out of my basement but the configuration and where I have the pc's set up is not conducive to that. Live and learn, next time more thought will be put into where I put the pc's!

"hole in the wall"???? - set to pink floyd- another brick in the wall

I just found a live video of that song, this link opens a separate window. It's an awesome concert video with great sound.

The video is cool but putting a hole in my basement wall would not be, for me anyway. I could make it a hole in the wooden board above the poured concrete wall put an exhaust fan in it etc, but I have decided not to since I should be moving in a couple of years anyway. I am going to just tough it out until then.

Well find a used swamp cooler to put in your window to your computer room and take it with you for the next house. Thats about all that is left without toughing it out to much.

Got to love the teacher lights. That stage was incredible.
I used to work in the concert biz as a stagehand.
That would have been cool to set up and then see live.
Big shows always amaze me. The classic bands know how to use lights and laser for subtle yet dramatic effect.

I have a window shaker upstairs in my 'computer room' where there are 3 pc's running but downstairs in the basement I just have those little basement casement type windows. I only have a few more years left in this house and then I move on. This house is too big now that the kids have moved out and onto their own lives. AND my knees aren't going to take 3 levels of stairs everyday either!

4 highlights of many

Tina Turners final tour - 20+ trucks 45' trailers and quite a few trucks of local stuff. Stage was massive and all in the trucks. Was a base for the arm she used in the show that weighed more than a heavy duty forklift with a heavy guy on it and 4 of us hanging off the side of the cab. But it was on the tips of the forks and not balanced like it should be, so we could stuff it in the truck. Back wheels were off the ground about 2 inches or so.

Rob Zombie concert - amps were red line and the mix board was red line. The bass was so loud and hard from the kick drum it "rearranged" your heart beat.

Disney on Ice - truck stalled out on the Key Arena loading ramp (its at a steep angle into the ground). Took 2 trucks with chains to drag the disabled rig (no trailer) to the mid point level where it is flat. Seems it was the lead trucker who forgot to top off his tanks before coming to the venue. All the fuel was at the back of the tanks away from the fuel pump line.

Natlie Cole concert - Stood next to Tony Bennet back stage watching her sing.

There are many more...but these are some of the good ones.
Guess one last one.

Bare Naked Ladies - Big road kitchen and they fed us breakfast and lunch. Show was medium size with quite a few inflatables and such. Was loads of fun watching the last bit of it and working with the crew.

Find a swamp cooler yet so Pengy can come over and not melt?

when i had the multiple ps3's crunching with the pc's, it certainly kept the apartment warm during the winter. i think the neighbors were wondering after that nasty shut-down-the-federal-govt-for-5-days snowstorm, why our roof was the only one with no snow or ice on it, lol !!!

ok right, next time greg_be is passing through IAD or DCA, we should meet him at one of the airport restaurants and have ourselves a little Rosie reunion... well, as long as he leaves enough time between flights (or spend a few days in DC-land)

Haven't plotted it out yet though.
More news on that front later.

When/if you get near DC maybe we can all get together?

Hey Greg, did you go to see the Tour de France yesterday in Belgium? I KNOW Belgium is a BIG place, but don't you live near Antwerp? It looked nice on the tv, crowded but nice! Lots of your fellow residents out for the race, each getting to see a few minutes of riders while standing in the rain for hours.

No Mikey I missed it. But its no big deal, I got a smaller bike race going on here today. I'm on the other side of the river from Antwerp, so they didn't come my way, they came into Antwerp and then made a turn to follow the river towards Brussels. You have to come weather ready if your going to stand out watching crazed mad men pedal by you in just a matter of seconds. The lead pack of lower class guys come into sight and disappear from sight on my straight street in about 30 seconds. The stragglers come by a few minutes later. In total the group is through in 5 mins. So to go TDF tour through Antwerp, that's a waste of time.

As for getting together, well have to see what kind of time I have. We might be able to hang out in the airport a little longer than normal to meet up. Not sure if I have time enough to come into the city. I might have to plan that one for next year. We could come off our concourse and out to the main terminal between flights if you guys know of anything there to eat. The s/o isn't all that interested in the computer side of things. She just uses it for email and web surfing for her Disney Pins. Sometimes she plays a cd or dvd. But being its a laptop (even a dually for that matter) she doesn't use it for anything else.

well, if you do have a long enough layover, both M and myself would certainly try to make it out to the airport...

it'd be really cool if mikey could make it also...

we'll certainly try to find some non-computer conversation for D to engage in as well...

Okay guys, explain this one. I had a 5 year old MacBook Pro that I got from my son. I installed BOINC, but since it did not have an Intel processor, the project choices were limited. I ended up running SZTAKI Desktop Grid. I only ever ran that project on that computer.

About a month ago, the computer was stolen. Bummer, but not a big deal, I literally only had music and BOINC on it. I just noticed on BOINCStats that I have been getting credit over the last month at SZTAKI! At about the same low rate as always. The person who stole my computer is running BOINC on my account?? Perhaps it's running without the person being aware of it? Bizarre. Is there any info I can get from SZTAKI about where the computer is located?

Sorry to learn about stolen lappy.

"Likely yes" to both questions.

This type of thing has happened before, at various other Boinc projects.

"Usually" if the police contact the Project directly, an IP can be provided, and the police can work from there.

Really depends upon how interested the police are in actually doing a little extra work over a 5 year-old lappy.

If you do an internet search, you should get some results on this type of thing, and could present to police to support your contention that this type of thing can work.

Good Luck !!!
