Message 64992 - Posted: 15 Jan 2010, 10:19:21 UTC - in response to Message 64980.

looking to procure a little red book... and maybe some other things in HK...

going to learn your communist party lines?
or go get a super fast computer for cheap.

Just be sure to check the shipping costs of sending it back home! Yes things can be REALLY cheap, it is where they make alot of the stuff we use, but shipping can be the catch! Have fun and we wish we were going with you!! Stay away from the places that will get you into trouble though. HK is mostly okay but China itself can be rough on tourists that stray and get nosy. I listen to podcasts by Leo Laporte about computers and he just got back from China itself. Lots of very fun and interesting stuff but also lots of people that are just living day to day and have no clue, nor do they want to know about, what is going on outside China. He had no troubles doing a podcast from within China itself except that some sites were blocked, but since you can't block them all he was able to upload them to a site that then uploaded them to where he wanted. Be CAREFUL with the telephone and data plans!!! Verizon whacked him with 50 bucks a minute overage fees on his iphone data plan. He used Verizons own tracking software and was over by 1 minute, but Verizon is now saying he was over by over 500 minutes!! He is disputing the charges.

Other than that have fun and be sure to tell us all about it!!

LMFAO Pengy..that's a heck of a link.
5,6000 for a burned up piece of ps3?
Nuts!
Got wonder what the story is behind it.
Looks like external burning, house fire or something.
13hrs and not one nut head has bid on it.
Still a great link.

Might be enough to make you switch brands! Those darned drivers, what do they think they are doing, denying a man a beer just because they want better working conditions! ;-))

That strike doesn't affect me at all.
Besides the unions have nothing better to do, but drink competitors beer on the striking grounds and burn pallets all day and sit around and drink and talk.
They are not actively striking from the video I saw.
Besides, the article is right, there is down turn in beer consumption. Its a big thing at concerts and parties, but bar drinking is not that popular. I have two cafe's (bar's) in my neighborhood and its rare outside of special events for them to be full. But they normally get usual truck delivery of beer a week. Quite a few kegs and some racks of bottles. Sounds like Inbev became AB. More beer, less quality. But 57% export! I did not know that.

So have you been to the Great Wall of China lately? I have never been and probably never will, it just is not in my vacation plans anytime soon. Right now I am in beautiful penguin weather, just South of Wash DC, with 2+ feet of snow on the ground and more accumulating as I type this!! I am soooo tired of shoveling!!!

I think pengy is a millionare and just doesnt tell us he is.
How else do you goto south pole and great wall of china?
Must be selling mega tons of krill for a mafia price.

Mikey, 2ft now? I haven't looked at any cameras around the D.C. area in awhile.
Guess I will have to watch CNN international and see what's happening.
We have snow over here near Antwerp, but its only just over an inch.
Nothing to get to excited about when you come from the Northwest.

Now where can we stuff a penguin and send him off to next?

BTW I will be stateside, but just briefly for a independent medical exam required by the Washington State workers comp. group. This happens in the first week of March. Just in Seattle for a few days and then coming back. Pengy, I should be able to send you that likeness I was going to send earlier. Airfreight is less when mailing on the other side of the ocean. lol

I think you could be right about the millionaire thinking! I think the next place is somewhere with 12 time zones all on one land mass, the former USSR! I think he should start in the West and work his way East. I hear the subway stations are exquisite even having chandeliers and NEVER a late train!! Then heading East, towards he sun, he could visit the colder areas and maybe even visit Tunguska, the site of the aerial meteoroid burst!

And I got 6 more inches of snow yesterday!! I am almost up to 3 feet now just for the last 2 storms, counting the December storm I am up to almost 4 1/2 FEET or so!! AND they are talking about another 1 to 3 inches come Monday!! Al Gore needs to have his money and statue taken away, this is NOT Global Warming!!

Don't go on one or two seasons evidence. Global warming is long term and can produce swings on both sides of the norm. We have plenty of evidence of warming, with moths and other insects starting to come up from the warmer continent.

I'm with ya, literally, visiting the Bethesda/SilverSpring area of DC metro. Snowed in since Saturday...

Leaving for Hong Kong at beginning of March. Got my visa for China. Will probably find a way to do the Great Wall, terra cotta warriors, etc.

Gotta find a teenager to hire for that snow-shoveling !

Now, now... remember, I didn't go on that Antarctic trip, it was cancelled on me, hopefully postponed to January 2011.

Why? You "interested" in some krill at a price-to-kill-for ?! Maybe we can make a deal !

MAYBE heading to London/Paris late April / early May. Do those choo-choo trains make it all the way to Beer-gium? Maybe stop by there for a day or two...

Hope everything goes well in WaWa-land... I'll get "the package" upon my return from China, and maybe find a way to channel some "krill" your way, lol !!!

Pengy, if they can keep the snow out of the electrical compartment and deal with the moisture problems that have plagued the chunnel choo choo then you might be able to make it over here. You get off in Brussels South (the international station of Belgium, where ICE and TGV and Eurostar all meet. Not to mention the Thalys (The Belgian Nederland and France version of TGV). A bunch of double deck commuter trains of 1st and 2nd generation come there as well as just about every other train set in the inventory.
From there you can hop a train to Antwerp and have a drink at the new Starbucks.
Have a bite to eat at McDonald's or Subway. Think there is a Pizza Hut somewhere close by. Dominio's is also somewhere in the area. But that is about as American flavor as the area gets.
