Would it be possible to download with each graphic wu the lowest energy level and rmsd found so far by users, so that we can see how far we are away and whether we found something lower? even the progress of getting closer to the lowest level would be thrilling, as you never know whether you would reach it or not. I don't know how that could be achieved and whether it is possible, but in my naive view it would need: - ranking of the incoming wus according to energy level and rmsd - sending out the lowest levels with each wu - integrating that number in the screensaver If this is not possible, how about the levels of the actual structures (turquoise points), as long as we know them. In the end, I'd have to say that the screensaver is great, although i am not understanding each and everything. I hope an explanatory section will be on the webpage as soon as the screensaver is released and no more beta. |

Might not be that bad, if it isn't included in the WU. For instance, the BOINC Manager could grab the current lowest levels when it returns work and gets the other user statistics. The project would have to update the lowest levels for each "family" of WUs in real time on the server as WUs are returned to make the numbers available. Not un-doable, but is it worth it? Maybe if the current 10 lowest scores for each WU group and the associated users are available real-time on this site? Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Temporary ban only - so need to work harder :) "You can't fix stupid" (Ron White) |

it's not like i dislike the idea, just think it's not that easy to implement if the data is to be timely accurate. -- Florian www.domplatz1.de |

Using trickle down messages might be a possibility. At the start of each result, attempt to do a connection to the server for a trickle down message. BOINC WIKI |

I too really like this idea, but the technical complications mean that it will be a little while it can be implemented. Have you looked at the plots discussed in this thread? They are not real time, but they show how your predictions rank. I am adding a feature that will show the Energy and RMSD of each low energy structure found by your current work unit. You will at least be able to see if any are in the lower left hand corner of the Energy vs. RMSD plot. There will be an explanatory page also. |

Thanks for the reply. Maybe it can be implemented one day, and if not this screensaver still remains a very good one.
