Can I install 64 bit Ubuntu/linux on a laptop with 32bit vista home premium as a double OS? the hardware is 64bit. I could not find any instruction on ubuntu.com.

If that is possible then in the future if I do defragmentation would it hurt linux OS files in same hdd? or any linux maintenance utility could hurt vista files in the hdd?

Shouldn't be any problems. Ubuntu should install a new boot loader that will allow you to choose which OS to use when you boot up. You may even be able to share some files between the OSs.
