I set my preferences is to connect every 10 days and keep 10 extra days of work jsut to try to get as much as I can since this PC is stand alone. However it's only downloaded 2 extra WUs.

Muy laptop I have at hoem has downlaoded a ton and I only set that to the default settings.

I do have this machine running as a Service so I don't know if that matters or not.

Anything I can do to download more work to store it up?

Rosetta@home-wu's has a 10-day-deadline, meaning it's a waste of time to download 20 days worth of wu. For this reason, the BOINC-client blocks work-request then you've got more work than can handle, according to your cache-settings.

Since "Connect every 10 days" is interpreted as "Don't expect client will connect again before in 10 days", any Rosetta@home-wu's is basically treated as "can't meet deadline" then they're downloaded, so even a single wu will block work-request until out of Rosetta@home-work...


So, to download more work, decrease your cache-settings.
Set "Connect every N days" to less than 4.7 days.
Set the sum of "Connect every N days" and "additional days" to less than 8.9 days.

Request 1.5 days of additional work.

It's only downloading an extra 3-4 WUs at a time and when it finishes one it downloads another one. I can't seem to get it to download a whole bunch at once like I want it to.

It's a Core 2 Duo machine and right now it's processing 2 WUs and has 3 on deck. It goes through one every couple hours so it should have more like 100 on deck...

If you swap those settings you will probably get more work. Any 'connect' over 4 will begin decreasing the maximum number of tasks you can have on hand at this project. The deadline here is 10 days so about 40% of that is the maximum queue you can reliably maintain.

The project gains equal scientific information from one WU that runs 8 hours as it does from four WUs that run 2 hours each, with the added (and significant) benefit of one-fourth of the internet traffic.

The maximum allowed runtime is 24 hours, and all of my computers are set to that length.

If you choose to adjust your runtime preference, do so gradually, adding a few hours a day until you reach your target. The BOINC manager needs time to "learn" how to manage your workload.

I had never changed those settings. Assuming you're talking about the: Target CPU run time setting, mine was at not Selected which I guess means it goes to 3 hours.

Today I did crank it up to 1 day as someone else recommended to me just to see what happens.

I also changed setting for Connect Every to 1 day and Maintain an Additional to 7.8.

Just to add... BOINC also takes in to account how many hours per day it has learned you are running BOINC. So, if your history is to run less then 24hrs per day, BOINC is using that experience to project how much work you will need to keep you busy to the upcoming days. So, over time, if you begin running 24hrs a day, BOINC will gradually be requesting more and more work.

If you can also set the setting for "Connect Every" to 1 day or less (if it is almost always hooked onto a network), that would also induce it to download more work.
