Hi, I have currently 3 active hosts crunching workunits. But in my account I can see 5 hosts. This is because one of my computers is replicated 3 times. I tried to merge these hosts together with the Web interface, but it doesn't let me do it. I would like to merge host ID 583166, 453384 and 362819 together. Can somebody of the staff do this "manual merge" for me? Thanks |

What you can do (I did this) is wait for the results to be processed (a month or two). The number of results for each hostID will goto zero. Then you can just delete the host. I wish there was a better way, but there was a whole mess of threads this year addressing this issue without any resolution. |

I just successfully merged 2 computers this morning.. Seems the merge function isn't totally broken. By the way, I think I'll wait the "fix" of the merge function, I prefer to move the credit of the old host into the new host rather than losing it, unless someone working on the hosts credit database can to this manually :) |

They can not be merged, cuz they reported different CPU informations. You can avoid this, when you install BOINC on a different partition from where your OS is placed, and in case you reinstall your OS, just start the old BOINC install. Ive did this with my AMDs and it worked fine. http://www.MIAteam.eu |

Do the computers have the same name? Sometimes that seems to help BOINC realize they are the same. The computer name is only visible to yourself so I can't tell if they are different. |

The current (very old) server software will allow computers to be merged if everything in the CPU description and the OS are exactly the same. The current version of the server software is smarter, and will allow merging when things have changed due to things like OS upgrades, or BOINC versions changing (causing the CPU descriptions change). Bug the Admins. I tried in the past, with no luck. Perhaps if more did.... Reno, NV Team: SETI.USA |

They can not be merged, cuz they reported different CPU informations. I have successfully merged ALL my duplicate hosts on my SETI account. I have NO duplicate hosts in my SETI account The current (very old) server software will allow computers to be merged if everything in the CPU description and the OS are exactly the same. The current version of the server software is smarter, and will allow merging when things have changed due to things like OS upgrades, or BOINC versions changing (causing the CPU descriptions change). This can explain what this happening and why I successfully merged my hosts in SETI: probably they have a newer server software. Any chance the Rosetta project would upgrade the server software? Bug the Admins. I tried in the past, with no luck. Perhaps if more did.... In fact, I want to bug them, I thought these forums were read from Admins, how can I contact them? |

Yes. The developer uses SETI as the test project, so they always have the latest. However, the version needed is not that new. Many other projects already have it implemented. Any chance the Rosetta project would upgrade the server software? The Admins replied to my mail. They say I was successful in merging hosts in SETI because in that project are used the very latest versino of BOINC server software, and they have on their todo list to upgrade the Rosetta BOINC server software :) good work, admins! |

Just to confirm; if you delete a host, you still keep the credit it earned, right? Crunching Rosetta as a member of the Whirlpool BOINC Teams |

Just to confirm; if you delete a host, you still keep the credit it earned, right? Correct. The credit remains with the user, and any team it was earned for. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

END what about "Merging from 32-bit to 64-bit OS" Yes, I agree. But on the plus side, you'll be able to compare statistics between the OS version on the same machine. Then, you'll see if 64-bit is helping your machine be faster or not.... |

( at this moment 64-bit its NOT faster then 32-bit |

NO plus . to compare statistics - I can do not Merge computer and see different statistics ... but if I wont see solid statistics of my CPU I may Merging ... |

I have one system (Computer ID 381963) running Windows 64bit and was using Rosetta version 5.8 (I think). The system had accumulated over 200,000 points. Rosetta detected my OS as: Operating System Microsoft Windows 2003 Professional Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.02.3790.00) Then I upgraded Rosetta to version 5.10.20 and Rosetta detected my OS as: Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition , Service Pack 2, (05.02.3790.00) The Strange thing is that it also assigned my system a new Computer ID (633655). So I thought, No problem... I should be able to merge them because they are exactly the same system (no OS changes or any modification)... but merge does not see the other host. It bugs me because I'm having a race with a friend using Rosetta points as the gauge and I have to add the two hosts... (try explaining that to your racing partner) heh. I hope Rosetta fixes the merge problem... because I'm not about to delete my host. |
