It would be cheaper for some of these "crunchers" to pay for control of one supercomputer processor. I got into DC because it used slightly LESS resources (disregarding my personal time) than one supercomputer processor used. That is only true when your computer would be "on" anyway. I wonder what will happen with BOINC on server farms using quad cores. I am not an IT professional, but I have heard that, in some - if not all cases, the individual cores shut down when not in use. Even the CPU fans stop! Jack |

Why do computers have OFF buttons. <-- that is a the best question of all time My computer doesn't have an OFF button. It has an ON button and a RESET button. It's Windows who provide the facility to turn the PC off. Blame Bill Gates. |

LMAO someone has to much time on their hands Yes I suppose I do, but I'd like to point out that whoever made the 'for dummies book cover generator' probably had even more... |

lol at the Dummies pic. I'm closing on 1m combined BOINC credits, and it's only recently things accelerated. Dual/quad cores help a lot... : ) And time, you need a lot of that, unless you have lots of computers. Since credits are in monetary terms, worthless, you have to be keen to worry too much about them... which I know I, and many others do : ) Crunching Rosetta as a member of the Whirlpool BOINC Teams |

It is crazy how much I watch my credits. Every morning I go around and check all of the computers to make sure they are still up and running and ready for another day. I am up to 2000 RAC closing in on 300,000 total. I upgraded to a quad core to run R@H faster :-) We were looking to upgrade the PC and a dual core would have been plenty but Quad!! Plus Intel just had a price reduction on the Q6600 so it was an easy choice. I hope to hit the million mark but it will take years. Thx! Paul |

It is crazy how much I watch my credits. Every morning I go around and check all of the computers to make sure they are still up and running and ready for another day. Thanks for the help. I installed BoincView but it was unable to find the client on the local host. We likely need to take this to some other forum but I would like to get some help with BoincView. thx Thx! Paul |

The secret for 1.000.000 is simple. Just put 20 computers crunshing rosetta and in a few months you have 1.000.000 points :p |
