but the problem is in my face

Do you have BOINC set to use a maximum percentage of CPU?

If it's at 90%, that would explain it; does it stay at 90, or is it oscillating a lot?

yes, its set to use 100%
its oscillating non stop
when i run other programs, the lower level of cpu usage is rising and the oscillating continue between 50-90% and vary

its start to do this 2 or 3 days ago and i don't have a clue about it
its clear that more investigation is needed

it is possibility for rootkit relations?

Do you have more then one BOINC location configured??

What you are seeing is really only totally explainable if BOINC thinks you don't want it to use 100% of CPU.

There are two places to set this. In the simple view in the BOINC Manager, you can set the preference locally for that specific host. In the General Preferences on the website, you can set the preference for each of 4 locations where you can define hosts to reside. Each time you restart BOINC the first few messages at the top of the messages tab in the advanced view show you the locations configured for each project.

i have 3 places configured, today deleted all and leave only the default one
this evening (at home)will see if its in help and will post other info or changes(if any)

just entering my home to see that everything is ok and there is no more oscillations :)
the problem was the different places configured in my account and after deleting it all goes well

...so the trick is just to be careful with keeping track of which host is at which location. At least it is a trick when you have to label something "school" even when that is not where the machine is located. You can display your profile by clicking the [participants] link above on this message board and then click on view for your hosts and when you select a specific host it shows the Rosetta location at the bottom.

The messages tab in the advanced view also shows the venues in the first few messages as BOINC gets started running.

i cant boder with that, sorry

if i need a different config, i set it manually on the present machine

the last one was with overheating problem and just down it to 80% usage, till replacing the thermo compound
:) easy (in my case, there is only 8-10 machines ofc)

me, please describe your problem. Do you want BOINC to run all of the time but it is cutting out? Or, is your machine overheating and you want it to run a little less, so it runs cooler?

Edit: I guess I should have read me's other post first where they have stated that BOINC is not running all of the time.
