I've got a couple of terminals here that we use mainly for surfing the web and basic document writing. I was hoping to run R@H on them, but the only problem is that the systems are locked by a program called DeepFreeze, which essentially restores the system to an "original state". Along with this original state is an empty work queue in BOINC.

Does anyone know of a workaround for this? Would installing BOINC to an "unfrozen" partition of the system work?

You might consider setting up a directory on a network drive for BOINC on each machine. That way the machine reloads, points to the existing directory with all projects and tasks in-tact, and starts running without having to download current Rosetta version etc. Obviously you'd have to use a network drive that doesn't restore each day.

If that is not an option, you will want to set your Rosetta preferences to have the shortest target runtime possible (1hr). This will preserve as much work as possible.

There is some way to have completed tasks report in immediately (or very quickly) but I don't recall where that is configured. I should think you would want to do that as well to make best use of the portion of the day BOINC is allowed to run.

Generally DeepFreeze is installed by administrators who don't want users installing and running unauthorized software. It will remove any files written during a session when it's shut down.

Nemesis, I think that is his point. Sounds like they have BOINC in the image (and so I presume has permission to run it) but it gets reset to that base image configuration each day, hence an empty work queue.
