This afternoon at 15.50 [uk] attempted to get into message boards, all I saw, was down by the start button, message -LOADING- but all I got was a blank screen and nothing happened for 10 mins after which I closed. Then saw message to the effect that BOINC could not find the BROWSER, with something about changing 'Variable Environment'. I had to remove BOINC and reinstall completely. Lost several WUs. Any suggestions as to the cause and remedy? (other than a reinstallation of BOINC]. After reinstallation everything is fine.
Ps. I got onto my ISP helpdesk and they could not offer a solution.
and now it has happened again!!

the message i see :--

Boinc Manager cant find web browser
Boinc Manager tried to display the web page https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta but could not find a web browser. To fix this, set the environment variable Browser to the path of your web browser then restart the BOINC manager.

Problem is that i have not changed web browser settings for months-
The only way to get to message boards is to go through my ISP.
Note - After restarting BOINC WUs downloaded ok and am waitng to see if Wus upload when finished.

It sounds like you clicked on the button in the BOINC Manager to go to the website, and that BOINC is just trying to bring up your default browser to do so, but you don't have a default browser configured.

Solutions:
Don't use BOINC Manager to get to the message boards.
Configure a default browser.
Don't reload BOINC, it won't help your Windows configuration.
Reloading BOINC does not require you to delete the tasks being processed.

XP2 Home
In -Control Panel-Internet Options-General 'Page to use for your home page'
buttons=
use current is greyed out
use default=com/isapi/redir.dll........ which I guess is IE7
use blank=about blank. whatever this means

Note- Exactly the same symtoms appeared some months ago and the way I got round the problem was to empty BOINC Manager, remove BOINC and reinstall.
I know this seems overkill but it worked until May 20.
Everything else works fine. WUs go back and forward and Internet.
Only the Tabs in BOINC Manager to go to Rosie etc web sites do not work.

Here is one idea on setting IE to be your default browser:

Oh Great One. That works. Very many thanks. Ceases to think that your name was a misspelling (substitute N for M and cross out D). Wondering how IE7 stoppped suddenly being default, but am happy happy.
