Message 40775 - Posted: 12 May 2007, 10:58:55 UTC

I just checked my machines, 7 hungry cores with no work. Boinc manager tells me that Rosetta is replying "No work from project". When I check Rosetta server status, it is green all over. What is happening?

Ok, the Rosetta front page server status has different status than the dedicated Rosetta server status page (and 1 hour older at the moment):

the look is 2 queued and 40 ready to send on each page
something is slowing down over there in computer world
must have forgot to feed the mice that spin the wheel to keep the power going

So far in the history of Boinc Synergies "POTM-project of the month" each project (except ABC) has gone down after we piled on. There was even a mention of a curse, placed upon BS by some unknown entity, which was he cause of this. We really don't mean to break each project....Honest. LOL

with all the new work being sent to the new hosts coming from the BS POTM and the new hosts from Seti being down, are we now seeing the limits of the Rosetta server capabilities??

Yea right I hope the admins of the project's are aware of it now ;)

As for the server limits it would be fun to get a project answer on that one.

I hope you encourage each other to set the CPU runtime preference to a rather high value, if you indeed concentrate that much power.

I guess the team could always remove the 1hr-2hrs preferences, if the problem with lack of work is consistent.

Sorry for the ignorance, but how do you set the CPU runtime??

Thanks Paolo

To set "Target CPU run time" go to https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/prefs.php?subset=project then click "Edit Rosetta@home preferences". Set your desired run time, then click "Update preferences".

Your settings will not take effect on a task until it re-starts after updating at your host.

http://www.boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/prefs.php?subset=project

Click Edit Rosetta@home preferences and select a new target CPU run time.

The application will continue to make model runs until the used CPU time is close to your setting.

The amount of data transferred to and from the project is more or less the same I believe.

A long runtime is thus a good preference for dial-up users, as they only have to download a single WU to do 24 hrs of crunching.

A long run time would also be easier on the project's database servers, work generator and such.

I don't think we have any server limitations, and we have plenty of funds to upgrade the current hardware whenever necessary. the work shortage this morning was our fault--we haven't been accustomed to work units being processed so quickly. needless to say, we have huge amounts of work to do, and will be making sure that the queue doesn't go empty again. sorry about this! keep on crunching!

Dr. Baker, have you seen that new Rosetta team, Electronic Sports League? Their RAC is 500,000 and they've been around only for a few months!
