...
Do we have anyone in the team with expertise on running Win 2K headless? VNC FTW.

Dunno, but I run TightVNC on Win XP. Tank recommended it over RealVNC once upon time.

I'm running BoincView at the moment but haven't got the hang of it at all yet! Anyone know where to find an Instruction Manual...

Our incredible Team has captured another vict... ermm I mean member!!
So a big welcome to the FaDBeens~ dgnuff :) :fireworks:
Nice little armoury you have there too! :chuckle:

Yes ....... Right now I only have one full time, and one halftime system working on Boinc. After D-Day, erm ... 16th Dec. ... when Fad shuts down, I'll bring the rest of the horsepower over to Boinc.

Might even set up a small farm of leftover bits and pieces for some more FaDBeens CRUNCH.

the building a headless cruncher tutorial in knowledge base back at the old place covers the use of tight vnc..........apart from the differences in the software and getting used to boinkview ........it should be much the same.

I'm not overly worried about administering them - lots of options for that. BoincView / VNC are a couple, I may well go the VNC route since it allows me to do most anything I want on the farm systems.

It's more a case of what is the best way to get a Win 2K box up and flying so that it can boot and go without a screen / keyboard / rodent. I'd obviously need those to install 2K, but once it's running, why bother?

in the bios select "halt on no errors" that way it will boot with no monitor/keyboard/mouse connected

Ugh. Looks like most of Tank's interesting posts in that thread got nuked about Nov 1. However, reading between the lines of the other posts, it looks pretty straightforward.

I'll probably post a brief battle report here if and when I get the first headless cruncher up and flying. Film at 11, as they say.

VV (aka Mother of the Son of V and Object of Hob's Desire), are you going to bed late or getting up early? Meg is having a wee spot of bother with her Rosetta install, and from the sound of it she's doing it "your" way (ahem!). When you have time, could you mousey over to the FaDBeens forum and see what you think first? Before I put my oar in, sort of thing.
